Sorry if this topic has been asked many times over, but does anyone play with one of the Razer Orbweavers or Tartarus gamepads? I’ve got a really old Steelseries Merc keyboard that still functions, and have been thinking of switching to a gamepad as it’d be somewhat similar to my old Merc.
Any thoughts?
Personally I don’t like them at all. I have an old Nostromo, and all it does is gather dust on the back of my desk.
Tried a few times to see if I could get used to it and like it, but every time I tried - in every thing I tried - it just felt like it was an inferior substitute to a keyboard. Maybe the Orbweaver would be better by virtue of having more keys, since that was one of my main complaints (fewer inputs within reach compared to the keyboard), but it was uncomfortable to use (locator bump was in the wrong spot for a touch-typist) and the software was typical Razor garbage (eg diagonals on the thumb pad had to be specifically bound).
Closest I came to liking it was using it alongside a joystick for either Descent or MechWarrior. In those situations it was arguably better than my throttle (which possibly isn’t the case any more due to a 3D printed centre detent), but even then I wound up preferring the keyboard over either alternative.
