Oracle disc is so fun

Just like my title says. Why is oracle disc priest so fun? I feel like the entire kit just works so well together and that is what every healer should strive for. I’m still pretty low IO on my disc (3k mage alt). But I feel like I can handle so much (things can still hit the fan though). Idk I just love it right now. This and resto Druid.

Cause it brigs back what made people like disc priests. Having shields matter and being more damage reduction than healing

I feel the exact opposite, I think Oracle is garbage gameplay wise.

Voidweaver is infinitely funnier with those big burst windows every 20-30 seconds, amazing SFX and dark thematic.

In comparison Oracle has fat shields and that’s about it, it has an extra button that gives HPS but it really changes nothing to the spec, 0 flavor.

Disc has been playing the voidweaver playstyle for like a full expansion now (it started S2 DF), the only difference being you get a swirly orb thing. It TRULY changes nothing about the spec except a supplemental AoE that pops up doing your normal rotation.

And honestly I find squid disc super, insanely boring. There’s zero consideration to what you’re healing it’s just pop bender, smack your IE buttons and void blast (lol Smite).

I tried Oracle, and it certainly feels like it has an answer to any healing problem, but hated how it just does no damage. Having more fun in keys with VW or Holy.

Haven’t tried oracle yet but I love the damage part of VW. Highest I have done on a big pull is approaching 4m and that was fuuuun. I am almost 3k though and it is feeling a tad rough to get the last few points as VW.

Told myself if I push past 3k I will give oracle a shot, maybe. I would just rather not honestly.

And what does Oracle have? A button that could’ve been a passive and brings nothing to the spec rotation wise.

Something > Nothing.

Oracle has significant changes in rotation.

It makes defensive penance a real cast - which it hasn’t been since pre-legion.

It has tons of absorb power on single targets.

And premonition, which allows for a few different things when pressed and makes you have to think about what’s coming up next and what premonition you need to have for it.

If you think having 7 sec CDR and spam Penance 3 times every 2 minutes is a great and fun, good for you, but IMO Disc has a different identity and Oracle does not reflect it.

If I wanted to play a defensive healer I’d spec Holy. Disc is supposed to be a damaging healer, by playing Oracle you lose 70% of your damage (and healing thru Atonement) for what benefit? A bigger shield? Nah, I’d rather help my group by doing 400k more overall DPS.

And it’s also funnier (though subjective) to pump those healthbars with big and flashy Void Blasts than putting a fat shield on somebody and don’t even see the healthbars moving.

The spec has always played better without Squid Discipline being a thing - and if its damage wasn’t so HEAVILY weighted into IE, then that wouldn’t even be a concern. I’d rather they just deleted Bender and fixed the rest of its damage at this point than what Discipline eventually became because of DF. Doubling down on it with VW’s existence is annoying, but at least it gives people a very easy option if they want to take it.

I think people are realizing that the spec plays pretty well without it once Voidweaver stopped being the meta pick though, which is why so many people are having that ‘whoah, oracle is FUN’ moment

Also it’s 6 times every 1.5 minutes.

To be honest I think the people “realizing” Oracle are just Holy rerollers. It’s hard for me to believe someone who has played Disc for a long time (I do since BFA for instance) enjoy this passive healing playstyle with holy light thematic sticked to it.

I think the squid build has improved significantly since they changed the CD to 30 fixed seconds instead of having CDR built into it. I’m one of the few people who played Oracle during season 1 simply because I hated the interaction with Smite/Squid CDR but that has been fixed and it plays very good now.

Also numerically Oracle remains dogpoop (thankfully).

The passive healing disc playstyle has been around since throne of thunder patch. Sit your *ss down with your “since bfa” lol.

What are you even trying to say? The only thing I could grasp was your lack of manners.

A mostly light based disc priest that focuses on preventing damage and feels like the disc of old cata era has been super fun for me. ( I picked up Oracle in the end half of S1 TWW again and fell in love with it right away even though it was quite undertuned back then - I was super glad to see it buffed going into s2 and even post nerf this week it feels great in raid and m+ )
Playstyle and theme is so fun and nostalgic for me that I moved off my monk main that I swapped to way back in Legion. ( priest lacked mobility and defensives back then for m+ and it felt bad so I swapped to monk and mained that for a few expacs ) Being able to prevent damage before it happens and have mechanics go off with minimal or no health drops is super satisfying. Having extra dispels through Premonition has turned out to be really clutch in some situations. Plus less atonement babysitting, better angelic feather, and generally stronger survivability just rules.

It’s okay if you don’t like it, the voidweaver theme/hero tree still exists.

Oracle was literally just nerfed again because we were numerically ahead of everyone else and shields were so powerful. Did you miss that? Even post nerf the spec/hero tree is still very strong. I dont get what your issue is tbh, if you like VW more just play VW?

If anything I rerolled TO holy because I was finding its changes fun, lol.

I’ve played disc for a long, long time over the years on a few different priests/names.

I still just think squid disc is boring and a ton of smite spam. :man_shrugging: But hey, I don’t wanna yuck your yum much more. Just saying that there’s a lot of reasons to like Oracle.

No, my comment was about DPS not HPS, Oracle was always ahead in HPS even in S1, here’s my previous quote for reference:

Yeah okay, at the end of the day fun is subjective but Smite spam has always been the trademark for the spec so if you enjoy Oracle that’s probably because you didn’t enjoy Disc to begin with.

No hate towards Oracle enjoyers, I just wish Disc had a different type of Hero talents because we already have Holy on the same class so IMO it’s a waste to have a 2.0 version of Holy instead of having an interesting secondary Hero tree.

You’re riling people up because this assertion is a “No TRUE Scotsman” argument based on a style and identity that isn’t even that old. It’s only been since Legion that the Atonement as a maintenance buff has existed, and since DF that current Squid iteration has been a thing. Meanwhile, you have me, and others, who remember shield spamming in Icecrown. Utility and damage prevention have been the spec’s identity since Vanilla, and Oracle is the return to form.

“that isn’t even that old” lol you are talking about something 9+ years old like it has any relevance today. Yeah do you remember yesterday when I was playing Combat Rogue? Oh wait that was a decade ago

It’s been “only” 3 years, such a short lapse of time to adapt. /s

Again stuff from 15+ years ago, congratulations? You are truly delulu, get over, it we are not in 2010 anymore.

Oracle’s light themes beat out shadow themes any day imo, I hated how the spec gravitated to one side more than the other the past few years.

Oracle brings:
-Nostalgia for how the class originally felt back in BC-Cata eras
-Premonition isnt just “an extra button that gives HPS”, it’s pretty versatile:
-shooting a ton of penances with twinsight and premo is super fun
-extra personal defensive shield ( solace )
-multi shielding to often times prevent one shots or ignore mechanics ( we got to keep rapture basically )
-Multi dispels on top of mass dispel has been very nice in some dungeons and borderline OP
-not to mention a much better angelic feather

VW is boring.
You basically only get a slight damage boost that doesn’t matter in 99% of content/key levels and you have even automaticjak saying it’s such a small amt of damage to contribute. At key levels where dps matters ( 18/19 ) you would just bring a MW monk atm becase VW’s damage is still pretty bad for what the theme is trying to achieve.
VW is literally the easier / more brain dead hero tree too.

Wow you get to shoot a purple ball sometimes and pretend to be a shadow priest by doing an insignificant 200k more dps than Oracle? So fun. /s

We get it, you are salty VW isnt meta and you actually have to use your brain to heal as Oracle. Not all of us have enjoyed where disc was the last few years or the shadow themes and we are happy to see it return to it’s roots with Oracle. No one is forcing you to play it if you dont like it.

You’re telling folks who have been playing the spec far longer than you that they didn’t enjoy it to begin with- I can so easily flip that back on you and say you didn’t enjoy Disc to begin with. Disc’s identity didn’t materialize and calcify when you conveniently joined the bandwagon. No, it hasn’t always been Smite Spam, but it has always been Shields. What’s meta or emphasized has changed over time, but the core identity has always included utility and damage mitigation.
It’s not 2010? It’s not 2024 either. Squid build had its day and now we’re The Oracle Within.
