Oracle as Disc: Some thoughts

I’m not impressed with the hero tree for Oracle as Disc and the hero talent (Premonition) doesn’t feel good to press in my opinion because it’s one of those gimmicky spells whose effect rotates making it asymmetrical within a spell rotation.

I feel like Archon would be a better fit. I really don’t like playing Voidweaver because I prefer the absorb / heal style from classic Diosc.

Premonition feels great to press right now IMO. Insight (and clairvoyance) are really great because you can pop out 3 shields for like 6 mil by using penance in between.

I think the only awkward spot is Solace, which feels hard to take any advantage of (which is the same for Holy). Really enjoying Oracle this season.

but there’s no way to know from the standard UI what effect is going to be used next thats my point - I’m not going to keep track of that in my head and the buff icons are really pointless since all it does is show I have Premonition to be consumed

Second this. Premo feels really great to press. Even more so this season since the buffs.

Solace IS a bit weird though. Id be okay if they cut it out or changed the effect. A premo that added even more penance bolts to our next penance cast could be cool. Buff to smite or multicleave dmg for a bit. Iunno.

It’s really not that difficult tbh and you get used to them pretty quickly. There are weakauras though to help people track what is next to make it even easier.

  • insight Cd reduction ( spam shields, penance+shield rotates, penance+smite for weal and woes, get off multiple dispels in a row )
  • piety +heal and overheal spread ( good w uppies )
  • solace Tank or personal shield
  • clairvoyance Everything in one

Repeat

Practice makes perfect

What i struggled with… is they nerfed oracle dps. Why. Its where they suffered, and it made VW raid pic again when Oracle was there finally

It doesn’t take long at all to get used to. You rarely press it outside of your Evangelism ramp. So the first time you are Mindblasting, Premonition, Smite, Premonition then start cranking. (Alternation is assuming Twilight Equilibrium). You always use it after Mindblast so that you can get CDR on Penance

If you really want to you can consume the next charge, Shield, at some point before your next Evangelism ramp. But if you don’t its the same pattern. Mindblast, Premonition, Smite, Premonition. Or just one premonition after Mind Blast if shield premonition is already consumed. Then the cycle repeats. After practicing it for a bit you’ll see that you really dont have to even keep track of it. The cycle of use every Evangelism takes care of itself.

Oracle still cranks really hard, you even have reason to use MB Oracle depending on fights - like One Armed Bandit.

You can track based on the ability icon. It changes each time, and also has a color change.

At first, this was pretty difficult for me. After using it in ~10 dungeons or so I got pretty used to what each meant.

It’s hard to say because they very clearly care more about oracle than any other part of priest, but I’d bet they wanted to knock it down to be slightly below voidweaver in performance so that nobody feels forced to play it, but could if they want to. Oracle is one of the most poorly-received additions to the game ever, and nothing they’ve done has meaningfully changed the reasons for that negative reception.

Nerfing it so that voidweaver is always, or almost always, a little better overall means that the people that like oracle can play it without feeling bad and everybody else can play the same disc they’ve played for the last decade.

Good post. I cant help feel atm tho VW in keys will take a hit with them being more then all other healers combined in high keys

The symbols all and colors all look the same to me

my PC crashes when I use weak auras

Premonition reminds me of Blessing of Summer from the Holy tree of Paladin… the thing I hated the most about playing Holy. That rotating spell was so annoying I guess I’ll never touch Oracle.

Difference between the two is that Summer you need to use on a target, Premonition you don’t. I don’t like Summer either but I enjoy Premonition because you can just press it.

I do think it would be cool if a colored rune appeared on the floor when you use it tho.

I HATE Blessing of Summer.

I’m finding Oracle a blast right now. As the guy above mentioned, it has a lot to do with not having to find targets. Prem is always a self buff, and it’s always pretty helpful and up often enough you can just hit it and get a benefit. Sure you can also optimize it, but I didn’t feel pressured to when starting out. Wheras Seasons can go totally wasted if you use it poorly, it’s not ALWAYS a buff that benefits you in every situation, etc.

Should give it a try and see if you like it, tbh. You might still hate it, but worth a shot.

Like it’s cool people don’t like it, not everything if for everyone and that is okay.

Personally I really hope they keep Oracle Disc mostly the same at this point. It has new main potential for me and they already got me to swap off my MW monk I mained for the last 5 yrs xD
