Optional world scaling?

I (and many others) feel World scaling is one of the most dumbest things ever to come to WoW.

So why can’t it be optional?

Leveling to me feels like a waste of time. I don’t feel any stronger at Max lvl than I did at lower level.

So why can’t this be an option to turn off and on?

Why would you want to get stronger as you level up?

At item level 405 you should feel powerful on Zandalar/KT as most creatures will die in tens of seconds.

Nazjatar – okay you might have some trouble but a few upgraded pieces of Benthic gear will fix that.

because this would require devs to do actual work scaling the mobs individually instead of just flipping a switch as ion puts it so scale things up and down.

What about the other 100 levels.

If they turn off world scaling, then we just go back to complaining about how fast you outlevel zones, and you have to spend more time going zone-to-zone to actually find somewhere to level.

Isn’t that what they get paid for?

If I had their job I’d take pride in it and have as much fun as I could with it!

Don’t have any comment on that. I despise leveling and only play my max level DK & DH. My guess would be they wanted players to enjoy the world a little bit more than blazing through leveling zones by twinking out and obliterating that zone’s content.

At the cost of feeling any power progression as you level.

I would love this but blizzard is too cheap to make things like this optional. Plus they know the best way for us to play so they wouldn’t even consider this.

But you are more powerful as you level. At level 5, you might have 200 hitpoints. At 25, you’re in the low thousands. At max level, you’re in the hundreds of thousands.

Players seem to think the only indication of power progression is how fast they can obliterate a creature in the outside world. True power should only be a metric at max level, otherwise there wouldn’t be a max level.

convenience has been the death of wow anything to make things easier on the devs has degraded our gaming experience. group finder, scaling, talent pruning, etc all were done to make development times quicker and in turn have created a watered down MMO experience that the devs dont even play anymore so they have no idea if it is even fun or not.

But when even the very first starting zones scale to level 60 there is no real sense of progression through a Zone anymore

None of these numbers mean anything. Go play an idle clicker game or something if the pure inflation of integers is compelling gameplay to you.

That’s not really a scaling problem.

At max level you can still go back and wreck everything pre BFA.

I didn’t argue it was compelling? I pointed out an oft-overlooked metric in a conversation about metrics by which players measure power progression.

Have something to offer to the conversation?

The simplest reason that isn’t an option is because it an unbalanced playing field across the entire game.

I recall my old boss, when I was being promoted to manager, once told me:

“Every employer wants to find ways to get the most work, in the least time, with the fewest people, out of their employees as possible, for the least amount of money.”

“Every employee wants to find ways to make the most money, in the least time, for the smallest amount of work possible, out of their jobs.”

“The only thing the business and the employee ever agree on is everyone wants the least time necessary. The employee wants to do the least work, and the employer wants the most results. Find a balance and you’ll be happy.”

Or, more succinctly, yes it’s their job but they’d vastly prefer not to have to do that work if they can get it done with less effort even if it’s not as optimal.

There is no fun in going through a database and individually tweaking records every two years to balance things.

Honestly I want them to scale the whole world up with us, but rewards revamped too. Maybe at max level there would only be various Item Level variants. I also wish we could set older dungeons to scale up too, or us to mentor down. I guess I’m odd for liking it.
