I am curious to know how everyone feels about there being purely aesthetic client-side only optional changes to classic.
Myself I could go either way, new character models and attack animations or old.
But if they did add newer terrain graphics, attack animations, player and NPC models, would you be a purist and use the old or would you use newer art?
They do have some modern graphics options, just not models.
The thing I think some people donât understand with models is that, even in BfA, a good number of the Vanilla era models and textures arenât updated. That means they wouldnât be updated in Classic either unless Blizzard undertook a fairly massive project to revamp all the remaining models in the game from 2004-2006.
NPCs and world textures would be this weird mashup of models from multiple eras of WoW, and your character would ultimately just get covered up by 2004 bodypaint style armour textures. Try transmogging yourself into T1 sometime: Thatâs what it would look like on Classic.
To me, so long as the default setting for a Character Model toggle is the older models and the newer ones are an option for those who like them, itâs no different than someone customizing their UI that Iâll never see.
Seriously give this mess up, its not going to happen, because if it did, youâd see such a fast exodus from classic that all the time and effort put into it to bring it back, would just be flushed.
just give it up. It is not wanted by anyone who truly wants classic to be as vanilla as possible.
If you legitimately believe I create and thumb up my own threads then that means I have made a pretty big impression on you (good or bad) and I donât even know who you are lol.
The OP is very unlikely to be the same person as the mass of alts liking the post. Try to do some investigative work before you slander someone, please.
What is it that you propose I give up? âThis messâ you said, I get that but what is âthis messâ that you speak of. Since this is the first and only thread I have made about any kind of changes regarding classic, and it was purely client side only, and completely optional, and has nothing to do with any function or mechanic of the game, what exactly is the âmessâ I need to be giving up? Trying to spark dialogue with other players?
Thatâs a very course attitude you have there friend, corrosive even. Some might (not me) call it⌠toxic? I was under the impression that all the âtoxicâ players would magically be left in retail.
Seriously, any and all changes that have been âproposedâ as âoptionalâ or otherwise, has been hashed over multiple times since classic was announced. I donât care if this is your first post on it or not, to be honest, I donât keep up with who posts what like some others in the forums seem to do. Itâs the topic.
Many of those posts I am referring to, offered these âchangesâ as client side only. But what no one seems to want to acknowledge, is for that to happen, the changes NEED TO BE MADE even if the switch to turn them on is optional.
That is NOT classic. That is NOT vanilla. That is NOT what players who have been wanting classic vanilla back for years, want. Why play classic if what you want is all the retail cosmetics? The graphics, the models, those are a huge part of the vanilla feel that this game has, and I was actually pretty impressed by how they managed to bring them back as well as they did. They still look far better than they did when I played vanilla, but then again, I have a much better computer today than I did back then, even comparatively speaking.
I am not a die hard vanilla player spending the past years on pservers, never played one, never will. Did not stop playing after TBC launched, I kept on playing, rolled with the changed, and only stopped for any length of time when cata came out and RealID mess broke. I do not play retail today, just burned out on what was the same old thing over and over day after day. I donât mind a grind, but grinding and getting no where is not what Iâm after either. I canât even stomach the thought of logging in to clean out banks or bags to be honest.
Iâd of been long gone had they not broke the news on classic when they did. But they did, and they said they were going to make it as true to vanilla as possible, and I have been waiting. Through it all, players have been constantly trashing it, trying to convince the devs to make changes, etc etc etc. Thanks to those who DID champion for vanilla, we have classic about to launch.
Yet, here we are, still advocating changes to bring classic to retail levels in whatever way the person posting feels it would be âcool to haveâ. Not just you, but all the people who have been being pitaâs since the news broke.
Just stop. All of you. Not just the poster, but everyone who wants changes not in vanilla. Just stop. All the doom and gloom and changes in various forms, is just depressing to still be reading after two years.
People used to do this with texture mods but it became an issue (making resource nodes bigger is one I recall, nude texture was another). Iâm not knowledgeable enough to know how they can detect client side texture mods; but I recall some people getting banned for doing it (unofficial modifications of course).
Blizzard offering an option wouldnât be too bad. No one would even know youre using it (unless you stream).
I think it might be a bit complicated to pull off due to animations (I donât think the newer models would be able to use the older animations), armor on the toons, etc. Personally I donât see an issue with it if it doesnât alter gameplay, alienate other players or give any advantage. I mean, only you will see it.
Doubt it will happen though. âSpirit of Classicâ and all that.
