Am I missing something or is there no way to opt out of guild chat logging?

Of if you do want to trash talk, delete the message right after xD

Pretty much this. Nothing is private when you talk in open chat and /gu is an open chat.

Fun story: I was in a guild a couple of months ago and the raid leader and a raider were carrying on this long winded conversation in guild chat about the raid team not being up to par, how was the lead gonna whip us into shape, was there any hope for them… general passive aggressive trash talk. From a tank who couldn’t tank a 6 shrine and wasn’t really “up to par” when it came to raid tanking (getting people killed on trash and such).

I actually almost felt sorry for them carrying on like that where everyone could read it considering he was pretty bad…

A buddy from my old guild logged on after having a few too many drinks, it was like 3:00 AM and only i and some other dude were on at that time watching him trashtalk the GM for not letting him tank our alt heroic run, then he logs out.

Next day the GM logs in. 10 mins later my buddy gets kicked from the guild while he’s offline without a single word said.

guild chat logs are almost as bad as drunk texting :C

Take it private if you don’t want to be logged. I personally like the guild chat log.

I find it helpful from a GM perspective. Remember growing up hearing, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it?” Well now, I can take action on stupidity. Only had to do it 1 time and that’s the only thing I like about the new Guild UI.
