Opinions on Great Vault

I have been consuming a lot of content about WoW lately. It seems like it is even more now, than when I played a lot. Something that frustrates me is how none of the “content creators” say anything about how the “Great Vault” is, currently, such a bad system.
To me, the “Great Vault” should be the perfect “Bad luck protection” to ensure you get at minimum, 1 Item for how ever many dungeons, raid, content, you do. However it has seriously devolved in a way that it is your best, if not only means, to advance your gear. For example.
If you do a a Mythic +2 Dungeon, the Vault reward is that of the End of Dungeon of a +6. 4 whole key levels higher.
Do a +6 and the Vault is the same as the End of Dungeon of a +9. While doing a +9, the Great vault gear level isn’t even achievable as an End of Dungeon reward.
It is way too much power creep. Any of the dungeon loot is worthless after a single week, because you are only playing for the Vault. For the gambling addiction of a loot box.
To me, the Great Vault should reward the player with the End of Dungeon loot of the Next key level. A +2 Vault should be a +3 End of Dungeon reward. This way you have a consistent power curve the whole season. While not making end of Dungeon loot useless. While the rewards you achieve is a slight boost to what you are “Capable” of doing currently, and may be just enough to push you to the next key. Leaving the final stretch of Upgrading gear to Crests. Not the Vault.

This whole playing for the Vault Meta is so asinine, and such a Phone game strategy. Ruining the whole flow and reward structure dungeon diving.

Lets not even talk about Delves.

Its okay, roast me. I had to get it off my chest because I’ve yet to see anyone talk about it, and how the massive jump from Vaults nullify the entire end of dungeon loot rewards.

Vault is completely RNG and was never intended to be “bad luck protection”. It is an extra weekly reward for playing the content. It’s also a method Blizzard uses to balance end-game gearing between M+ and Raids.

This is because Raids are weekly lockouts per difficulty, but M+ is infinitely farmable. It wouldn’t be fair if M+ dropped Myth track gear an infinite amount of times (as many as a person can run) compared to being limited to 8 raid bosses where most players will never even complete. Even with Mythic Raiders, most will stop around the 4/8 range so realistically 4 chances for Myth track drops per week + vault.

Currently, the main things the vault does for M+ players is give us Myth track trinkets. Aside from that, we can craft items that are only 3 ilvls below the season max with BiS secondary stats.

You’re not really wrong in your perspective of the loot system, and I say loot system because that’s what your real issue is here, not really the great vault. The real purpose of the great vault is giving people who can’t mythic raid the opportunity to get that level of gear over time. You’re right that the gap in rewards between dungeons and the vault is crazy, but that doesn’t mean the problem is in the vault. It’s in the dungeons giving useless gear. Dungeon rewards should be increased to close the gap, or there should be some kind of way to get myth track gear outside of the vault and mythic raid. It can be done in many different ways, like adding a new currency from dungeon to let us buy something at some point, make mythic raiding far more accessible, etc.

But there’s just no way forcing people who don’t do mythic raid to never get myth track gear would be a good thing for the game.

I’d rather have the Great Vault than the chest from BFA full stop. I do wish there were some changes to the Vault but when you look at where we came from, I can’t complain too much.

This effectively means the removal of Myth track items from Mythic plus and a general decrease in the item level obtained overall (capping out at 613 instead of 623). I don’t see what that accomplishes, other than ensuring that nobody’s best in slot pieces come from anything besides Mythic raids.

I don’t think it belongs in MMOs. I think it’s a free-to-play mobile game feature and should not exist in WoW.

I play for seasonal rewards, not gear. I’m good on not having the amount of effort I need to put into gearing extended.

GV is fine but the double layer of RNG behind it in opening the slot by the content and what will drop from it could use some changes.
