Opinion on caster with mindblade rolling on contested magus blade

A MS upgrade can still be a minor upgrade.

So yes that would rule out SRing something for someone else but not what happened.

ok, so to be clear. SR means you can roll on whatever you want for whatever reason.

taking sidegrade: have mindblade, rolling on magus blade for 0.046 crit rating increase, increasing your dps by 0.03% = this is cool

taking something that is the same sidegrade for you personally but passing it to a friend who will get a 35 spellpower upgrade = jerk move

Is this the consensus most would agree on?

People saying that in my example the guy was in fact rolling for a friend. So I don’t know if it even matters if either can be true.

Yes, absolutely. I’d even say taking it for transmog is cool. SR is not loot council, so how much of an upgrade it is for ANYONE is not considered. If you want that to be considered… use a loot system that looks at that. Anything else is you getting mad at someone who legitimately won the roll and used the system.

I consider it jerkish, but within the rules. I wouldn’t cause a fuss over it. It’s worth noting that while that sucks for anyone else who wants that particular item, it’s really good for anyone who wants another item, since it’s effectively a raider with no preference coming along.

Yes, that is pretty clear and gives people who need nothing a reason to help complete the run.

Rolling for someone else is generally frowned upon, but was that in fact what happened?

had people straight up say their SR was for sale. Its pugging, it is what it is.

I kinda see both of these at the same level of prickishness personally but I do see your point.

Now - lets say the item in question is DST. Holy pally comes in and puts double SR on it. Same deal?

Whatever their argument, that they swapped holy to help but ms is ret, or that they’re a shockadin and the haste proc is fun or useful for them, whatever. I wouldn’t let them SR it. Would you?

And if that’s up front and known to the raid that’s cool.

I don’t know what double SR is, so I can’t comment on that.

But I’ve definitely told groups “hey my ms is enh, but I’m only interested in ele gear, is that ok?”

And I would leave on the spot if I was told no.

Again… it sounds like what you really want to do is use some sort of loot council, but are stuck with SR because otherwise people won’t come to your raids. Either accept that people can SR stuff that is offspec or not even good or don’t use SR.

And I already said

so I don’t know why you felt the need to ask again? Maybe whatever double SR means affects it? Idk.

ive seen it happen twice. the first time was a month or two ago, it was a friends guild so i dont know who else that was rolling if they were in their guild or a pug. the one last week im pretty sure everyone else rolling on it was in guild, and as we only pugged 3-4 people. I’ve heard a guildie complaining that someone did this in a pug i wasnt in, have no idea on that one.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

Yes, that is a massive jerk move.

Just what it sounds like. Two soft reserves, and you can double reserve the same item.

SR with no MS > OS enforcement is probably the worst loot system imaginable.

thats fair reasoning.

Ok, then yeah, especially if the scenario is as Biffie posted, which I’ll repost here for clarity.

So they’re swapping specs for the good of the raid and you think that’s a reason they shouldn’t be able to roll on their normal spec?

You’re the jerk in that scenario.

yeah thats fair and what i showed in my example, and you could leave, but i’d probably be fine with you staying.

and i felt the need to “ask again” because im clarifiying how i understood your statement, because i felt it was unclear.

comparing

  • extremely minor upgrade/sidegrade = OK
    to
  • SAME extremely minor upgrade/sidegrade and passing it to a friend that needs it a lot more = JERK MOVE

You keep capitalizing jerk move like I think it’s the worst thing in the world.

It’s merely annoying. Not worth getting upset over.

yeah good point, that would be fair if theyre MS ret

also

thats cool. not trying to be contradictory, i just want to understand how people view these things.

so sidegrade is ok, rolling for a friend is not worth getting upset over

i agree, very good point.

sadly guilds and pug leads need do it to fill groups quickly. pugs join sometimes for that very reason. which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

That’s a hybrid system, neither SR or Ms>os. It’s actually loot council with more steps if your deciding who actually needs upgrades. You can state these rules upfront though, your run.

Exactly. And as far as having an impartial system that allows the player the most freedom of choice, loot council…

Loot council is all about trust. Most people simply aren’t gonna trust a pug loot council on any level.

It would be ridiculous to do so. If the loot council has the long-term interest of the group as their goal, then they won’t be impartial to PuGs.

Soft Reserve and then MS > OS doesn’t tend to reward those who attend often moreso than those who are attending for the first time.
