Operation: Floodgate Lootpools are a joke, and not a funny one

Just finished up my first world tour with Operation: Floodgate, and was frankly stupefied.

Out of 4 bosses, my group consisting of a Protection Warrior Tank, a Preservation Evoker Healer, and for DPS a Balance Druid and 2 Frost Mages, got a grand spanking total, for the whole dungeon, of 1 item. Not 1 item per boss, or per player, 1 singular solitary item. How could this be? Well, I have a pretty good hunch, personally.

See, the first boss contains absolutely zero warrior eligible items. No plate gear, no strength weapons, no shields, no rings, necklaces, or strength trinkets. No possible loot whatsoever. Big M.O.M.M.A. Can never drop an item for a Protection Paladin, a Retribution Paladin, or ANY Death Knights or Warriors (there’s a healer trinket for Holy Pally’s). And that’s exactly what our group got. Nothing.

Moving on to the Demolition Duo, the same problem occurs but for Cloth-wearers. There are no Possible drops for mages, warlocks, OR priests. None whatsoever. And once again, that’s what we got, nothing.

Swampface has no possible loot for Beast Mastery Hunters, Marksmanship Hunters, and Evokers as a whole (an agility polearm bails out survival). And for a THIRD time, that’s what we got. Zip, nada, zilch.

Geezle has the absolute grace of dropping a cloak, and as such being impervious to this strange, embarrassing problem, although what my group actually got was the “Gigazap’s Zap-Cap” on our Balance druid for our one and only item in our mythic (non-plus) run for Floodgate that me and my brother did, and I quote, to “establish a baseline gear level.” Now I got pretty unlucky in my world tour but I feel this was beyond just standard bad luck. This was a dungeon without rewards. This was embarrassing. How does something like this ship? I’m far from a run-of-the-mill hater and actually quite like a lot of things about this patch but man… This was beyond tilting. And if it can happen in m+ too? I can see some people losing their minds after a stressful dungeon without a hint of rewards.

The dungeon has a weekly loot lockout. Was it the first run for all 5 of you, or had some of the group done it before?

I can personally guaraantee 40% of the group, and the other 60% vehemently said they weren’t locked. There’s also the fact this dungeon specifically has a bug that won’t let you back in if its on lockout, even just to do m+ that makes that even less likely.

Yeah, no accusations, just trying to cover all the possible legitimate possibilities before moving on to malfunction.

Don’t trust strangers.

Still, if the loot table analysis is accurate, 'tis a wonderfully strange and regrettable thing.

This seems like…quite the oversight. It’s actually a bit funny because I don’t ever really recall something like this happening before.

It shouldn’t happen in M+, since the chest draws from the entire dungeon’s drop pool.

I don’t even know if “malfunction” is the right word; presumably the loot system chooses a recipient first and then an item from the loot table- in this case three recipients were chosen that then didn’t have any eligible items on that boss’s loot table so no loot was awarded. Apparently the system doesn’t have a backup to then choose a new recipient (presumably to prevent locked-out players from funneling drops to someone), which means the error is more one of oversight- a spec lacking any eligible loot- than of malfunction.

Maybe malfunction isn’t the absolutely correct word, but if it works the way you suggest, that is not functioning correctly. Each unsaved player should have a 20% chance of loot per boss in M0. If they win that 20% roll and get nothing because of a loot table idiosyncrasy, then it’s not working properly.

You can check it in game in the dungeon journal by selecting any given class and/or spec to see what loot they drop.
