Operation Floodgate 3rd boss

This thing feels several key levels higher than the rest of the dungeon. The amount of unavoidable group wide damage that has to be healed while dodging waves and dealing with the link just feels insane. Anyone else hate this boss the most this season?

I agree. I haven’t played a lot of expansions, but it’s the only boss that I have encountered in the time that I have played WoW where I feel truly helpless at times. The first rounds of mechanics, fine, I have my CD’s, but when you don’t have them I feel like I have very few options considering how often you are forced to move. On top of this if your tether is moving a lot unnecessarily it provides even less time that you can cast anything.

I’m dreading this fight on higher keys. I think it’s going to be a nightmare/borderline impossible to heal without other group members using group healing/mitigation CD’s when you don’t have CD’s available…there’s just so much movement.

Yeah, I decided to take a look in the adventure journal to see what was up. On a M0, the tether themselves do about 10 million damage divided over 24 seconds to each person. So by +10s that is 22million damage to every tethered player per 24 seconds. Definitely going to be a heavy sustained heal check, that one.

Well this aged well, at least he will be easier now lol.

Err, maybe. I just read the changes, it’s just this for that boss right?

  • Reduced the speed of waves created by Awaken the Swamp by 25%. The movement force applied reduced by 17%.

I’m not sure what the movement force applied means, but I’m still worried. I knew it was going to get nerfed, but I think we are going to reach a key level where we still run into the same difficulty…unless maybe I’m underestimating how much a 25% reduction in bullet speed will make things easier. I guess I shouldn’t be too ‘doom and gloom’ until I try out these new changes.

He also does 10% less damage on all abilities due to the global nerf.

Right, but a global nerf doesn’t fix the problem, it just kicks it down the road a tiny bit. The same issue of that boss being harder to heal than others at that key level remains, it will just be encountered a tiny bit later…but like I said, maybe the wave speed reduction will make a bigger difference than I think.

Movement force is the pushback they do.

Wasn’t there a similar issue with S1 necrotic wake pre-nerf, where 3rd boss(stitchflesh) was a insane heal check that was ridiculous to heal and bricked too many keys?

History repeats.

Yeah I see your point, hopefully he gets additional nerfs later.

I’m confident it will. Blizzard looks very concerned about tuning judging by how quickly they are making changes and they have the data to see what’s happening. This boss was the very first listed nerf if that even means anything.

This is basically the last boss of Ara kara but on steroids. Manageable in Voice with a premade. But an absolute pug nightmare. Need to remove a wave maybe, or have the tether fall off during that phase. But that might make it too easy. Not really sure how they can help pugs. Doing it on tyrannical is really not fun at all

The waves weren’t the dangerous part. The dangerous part was the constant damage from tethers. It is a little tricky to defensive through constant rot damage so will be a high HPS requirement at higher levels.

Yea but the movement on top of the damage is making it really difficult on healers. And you’re tethered to someone who in a pug might not go the same way you’re going.

I don’t know if anyone else has run into this issue, but I did this dungeon/boss with my girlfriend whose desk is right next to mine and on my screen I was on top of the person I was linked to, but still taking damage from being too far from them. Like my girlfriend said to me that I wasn’t close enough to them on her screen, and I double checked and moved my camera around to make sure I was right on top of the person I was linked to at all times. Still didn’t matter and I took damage and it didn’t change on my girlfriend’s screen.

Is there like a server discrepancy issue with this or something? I was in a completely different spot on her screen than where I was on my screen.

As a healer it’s probably suffering, but as a tank I can’t stop giggling. It’s so funny to me for some reason.
