Hey Blizz, open world player here. Got a champion level gun today in my reward for the event for protecting the researchers. Now, yeah its great it dropped, but how the heck can i upgrade it beyond 5/8 when the content to get the Wrym’s Shadoeflame Crest’s are WAY above my content choice? Says something about M+15’,16’s, or Heroic raid bosses are the only way to get said crests?
Like wth? I mean grateful for the drop, but my Ol’Smoky would have been just fine.

I believe Champ gear requires M+ or Heroic raids to upgrade beyond a point. You’re not going to be able to besides.
…But if you’re not doing that content anyway, why do you need the Ilvl? It’s like 420-ish? No pun intended.
Basically you can’t. Open world players are hard capped at 424 which is around 4/8 upgrade level for champion gear. It means that 8/8 veteran gear is identical to champion gear ilvl range for you.
Oh yea. I suppose you could try crafted gear.
If only doing solo content, I don’t think that weapon will be going any further.
Maybe getting a crafted one is the way to go
Some big event in open world will drop wyrm. Also you can buy a wyrm crest for 2 great vault tokens.
Nah, that’ll be capped at 424 with 5 star quality. I guess you could get an essence thing but that would require doing higher end content anyway.
Yeah, higher than 424 requires 3 wyrm crests.
You can upgrade to 424 with crests you can farm from world content, anything higher and you will need to get into higher tier raiding or mythic+. Honestly, 424 should be more than enough for open world content. That is similar ilvl to the normal raid.

It’s not? You basically got BiS for the content you want to do. Nothing is gimped, nerfed, or anything of the sort by you deciding not to do M+ or H Raids.
There exists no world content difficult enough to drop wyrms or aspects crests, so world content probably shouldn’t drop gear on a track that can be upgraded with them to begin with.
Eh. It is annoying to be stuck with a partially upgraded item with no way to advance it. It feels bad and sux from a gear progression PoV. Whether you need more ilvl than that is completely besides the point. I would have preferred it if open world players couldn’t actually get champion gear at all. That way we could just max out veteran gear instead. That feels better from a game mechanic perspective IMO.
Youre not. You got super lucky and got the highest you can get without having to upgrade it yourself.

It’s not gimped. “Gimped” would be if a world drop-Champion track only upgrades to 424. You choosing not to do additional content to get the crests necessary to go to 437 is not the game’s fault.
Also, its only 11s you “need to run” to get wyrm crest fragments.
First, I am also a solo/never do group content, so know I feel your pain, but, top level gear comes from doing top level content. Blizz has obviously decided to only allow us to upgrade so far with non instanced, non-high end content.
Not all players who do world content are locking themselves out of getting the higher tier crests. World quest players should be thrilled that they can upgrade gear a couple of tiers higher than they normally would have been able to to begin with.
What is this “normally” you speak of? Back in BfA, I was an open world player too and I could get to heroic raid ilvl. Can’t do that no more. So I’m really not seeing any evidence of your claim.

Yeah exactly. So it’s a matter of… do you want a lower weapon that you then need to upgrade to Veteran 8/8 (ilvl 424) with drake crest, or get the Champion 4/8 (ilvl 424) which has the exact same outcome and requires no further input if you don’t do difficult content.
This^^^^ Because i was perfectly happy with my crafted weapon that was ilvl 424, and cost me 3 weeks worth of spark fragments! Now i wasted upgrade materials, just to find out i can not upgrade it to its fullest.
