Open world, hello...anyone?

Hi, My name is Zorloff. Pleased to meet you. /bow, I wanted to get something off my chest if that’s ok. If you would please be so kind as to tell me…where is everyone in the open world? I apologize if this comes out of nowhere but it sometimes feels like this is a single player game that has an MMO setting just like the 1st season of a bad anime with an edgy af main MC…but anyhow, I digress, thank you for taking the time to read this. \Smile

it’s impossible to make interesting open world content due to impossibility to balance it around player number and their value, that’s why everything good is instanced

Everyone is chilling in the Chamber of Heart or doing other endgame stuff at max level, or all the players are in Warmode, etc. There’s a lot of variables at play for why the open world might seem empty to you. I was going to say your realm is dead or low pop but I have no idea how that stuff works actually. I never really paid attention when I did questing for leveling tbh.

It’s kind of sad when realm pop dies off.

Legacy zones are always going to be emptier than current patch zones. People are playing the endgame more often than not.

It’s because you’re playing on RP realms. Their sharding only crosses over into other RP realms. While limiting the sharding is nice for RP elements, it also significantly limits the amount of players around.

I was on Emerald Dream for a bit…then bailed when I started noticing how empty everywhere was during a lull.

(not a fan of sharding in particular…I miss server identity…but there’s not much you can do :\ )

Any server suggestions?

Horde side, I think of Area 52 and Illidan as the super servers. Alliance, Stormrage and I’m not sure where else (only play Horde these days).

Or if you want to stay on RP realms, you’ll have better luck on Moonguard (Alliance) or Wyrmrest Accord (Horde) if you don’t mind having WM off. Not sure how different zones would be, but Orgrimmar/Stormwind would probably be more crowded.

Depends.

Alliance - Stormrage is populous

Horde - Area 52 is a full pop server too.

With that said, most servers look full in game because of crz.

Stormrage is the capital of the Alliance.

We have raiders. And more raiders. And other raiders. And raider-rejects.

We have some dungeon folks too I guess.

You’re alliance so Tichondrius. It has a high pop and last I recall, it has very active alliance pvp because they used to kill me all the time.

That was back in WoD though but it should still be a high pop realm.

Area 52 is a great realm but it’s horde heavy.

Most everyone is in one of these places, or traveling between them:

Boralus/Zuldazar
Org/SW portal room
Heart Chamber
Uldum
Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Sorry, but you wont see players outside of WQ zones in the open world.

Tichondrius is Horde now.

Towards the end of MoP, some famous PvP’er switched to Horde, and half the server followed suit.

All of my level 90 alliance characters are still there where I left them.

In the current hubs and quest zones. I see tons of people out in the new vale and uldum maps, as well as boralus/dazar’alore.

I feel like the realm I play on has gotten better over the last expansion, probably due to better use of cross realm grouping. I used to think I resented doing current things with a ton of people but theres this weird sense of camaraderie that comes when you know 5-10 other people are all trying to do the same thing as you. Not to mention the faster respawns, and having help killing things.
Theres really nothing better than going after some random, weekly archaeology reward from a past expansion and finding a group of people who are out there too. Its one of the things that makes me happy anyway
