Open World Challenge

It will never happen, because the player base that is left playing retail would just revolt.

Blizzard has carefully curated their retail player base over the years with the many changes aimed at veteran players that are solely focused on endgame repetitive content.

Players interested in non-instanced content are just not the focus of retail WoW.

Blizzard has effectively turned WoW into Diablo 3, minus the Diablo theme of course.

Or, maybe, just remove some gear of your gear.

I’ve been calling M+ lazy design for a while because this is exactly how that works. “Just opt-out of progressing” is not a helpful reply here.

Maybe open world mobs should need 5-6 spells to kill them instead of 1-3 for level appropriate gear? Let mobs live long enough so that playing normally, you actually get to feel like your playing your class?

You can if you’re a mage or Druid or Paladin.

I am not the one who made the topic. I support players who want some sliders and options to make their individual leveling or outdoor experiences “more challenging” but not at the expense of the other players who don’t want anything to change. So I disagreed with your blanket solution of templates. Just slap a modifier slider on Chromie when choosing Chromie time and call it a day, or an NPC that works like the one that turns XP off, idk.

what progression are you getting in open world? Are you just waiting for that piece of BIS gear to drop? Making open world more tedious to satisfy a need for imaginary progression wont help anything.

You could say this about any part of the game. Why do dungeons need to offer a challenge, sounds like tedium to me. See what I did there?

Lets face it, you only care about your play style, anything that impedes that is tedious.

I think you have it flipped what sorta content Boomers like.

As opposed to what?

a handful of difficulties that dont satisfy anyone?

You want challenge. you cannot have it as long as you are using god gear from m+/mythic raids. If the devs give you that level of challenge you desire, they will either have to make the same gear available to open world players or say goodbye to their open world player base. Either homogenize ilvl or lose the casuals. Or they can leave m+ and mythic raids as the place you get your challenge. You currently have the ability to give yourselves all the open world challenge you want, you just have to be willing to take responsibility for yourselves.

This is highly disengenous.

Here’s a secenario:
War Within: Swoop down and 3 shot a mob without so much as a scratch in your health
Classic: Pull a mob that leashes another mob, carefully check your surroundings so there’s no other danger, focus one mob down and die fighting the other mob.

Classic has a lot of challenge

Its supposed to be mindless, its questing. The difficulty in questing is how many quests there are. Questing is a Marathon not a race.

Oh yes, and the M+ Hamsters have been totally satisfied on their endless treadmill since.
/sarcasm.

Or, they could just scale everyone’s ilevel down like they did in Challenge modes.

I’m so tired of the hardcore instance grinders in WoW throwing shade at people for asking for harder world content. MMOs used to offer this. There is more to MMOs than just grinding some instance.

Dude, just stop with this. Even with your gear off the world content has zero teeth.

While I was still playing HC there were literal group mob farms with mages and pallies aoe farming rapid respawns. If you’re dying to mobs and not disconnects then the feel of the world being challenging has more to do with your gear and class than anything else.

They can’t man. They put so many garbage gameplay chores out in the world where if it was a challenge people would only do the easiest ones. We already have a lot of people blasting the shortest and easiest delves because they don’t find the content enjoyable and just want the reward that isn’t tied to their content of choice.

I agree that there should be more challenge for solo players that is mechanical and a combat puzzle to figure out like the mage tower was.

No, that’s your rotation… that’s reality, you rinse and repeat that.

Classic’s challenge is in it’s tedium during leveling… once you leave leveling and are in the portion of the game where most people will spend the majority of the time, holds raids that have no challenge due to being overly simplistic and solved millions of times over. PVP is still PVP, but at no point does beyond is there any challenge in classic.

So now you’re furthering the goalpost.

Classic’s content is largely leveling, and you can die extremely easy during leveling - Therefore, classic is challenging.
Retail is ONLY challenging during Mythic+ or Mythic Raids. Nowhere else is it a challenge

Can you solo a world boss? How many level 80 open world elites can you pull with your starter leveling gear?

There is challenging open world content that is difficult or impossible to do alone…It’s just not like classic’s tedious and boring setup where everything is that way and takes far to long to deal with

No.

If you consider tedium a challenge? Yea… you’re right.

Normal raids would give classic players a conniption fit.
