How good is feral for open world content and the new 8.3 content compared to the other specs? Obviously I assumed resto and bear would be behind in both of these compared to feral and boomkin would be ahead?
Feral has always excelled at open world content.
We have stealth for the stuff you dont want to kill.
Heals for any damage taken.
Flight/travel form allows us to click on objectives while mounted.
…and our aoe makes quick work of large pulls.
Mainly wanting to know which is better for pulling multiple mobs, I seem to be having a rough time as boomkin, is feral easier when dealing with more then 2?
I think your ilvl is just a little low and that’s why stuff seems tough.
I recently switched to feral and feel that balance is tankier. You get a surprising amount of armor from moonkin form.
Balance is definitely easier for pulling a lot of monsters but feral is fun too.
I think you will struggle a little with either spec until your gear gets better.
Feral is great out in the world. Good damage, good survivabibility. Great at killing others.
I personally quest as feral but it is largely a familiarity thing- I suck at boomkin. Balance has treants, range, can slow, and is tanky. I get overwhelmed as balance often. Feral ca stealth, and if you’re soloing the rotation has you healing yourself. Plenty of aoe and dots.
Can’t speak to questing as restoration but questing as guardian is easy mode. Rares and kill quests just moonbeam everything and tank and spank. Eventually the random dps will come along and kill stuff for you. Hard to die to open world stuff as guardian. Pretty great IMO.
I only do dungeons / raids as feral if dps is needed. Open world I use guardian. The new corruption affix makes that even easier. Just pull the whole world.
Feral is really good with dealing with more then 2 mobs…just make sure u dont just charge in full force… set up bleeds then kite they die in no time
Once you get a little bit of gear, both feral and balance can roll over all world content with ease.
Guardian is the king of multiple mobs. Ive been feral since TBC but have recently switched to guardian. In regular questing you can literally pull 7+ mobs and have no trouble surviving and burning them down. Plus you can still use stealth and just shift to bear for the actual fighting.
Hey there:)
Feral imo is better in most cases for open world in terms of survivability. This is due to a few things, first being the free instant Regrowth after spending five combo points via predatory swiftness passive. The second being that we have lower APM in our rotation, meaning we lose very little DPS if any spending the GCD to use the free Regrowth. The third being that we have two charges of Survival instincts, 50% DR is huge, albeit only 6 seconds, still very strong. Fourth, the Predator talent allows us to reset Tiger’s fury upon mob dying with with one of our bleeds on it. Fifth, we finally have an ability (primal wrath) that allows us to dump combo points in aoe scenarios! To top all of that off, feral is very mobile and loses very little by way of DPS in moving around. These are few reasons off the top of my head for feral being great in the open world.
With all of that said, Balance, when taking Nature’s balance talent will have more front loaded damage. Additionally Fury of Elune is also a great open world talent with good front loaded aoe damage. Balance is also considerably durable for a caster, and you can cast Regrowth in Moonkin form. This Regrowth cast, however, directly impacts DPS. Also, Balance has the passive chance to make lunar strike instant via Owlkin Frenzy passive (taking mele dmg I think). So pulling a few mobs and getting meled is oddly enough a DPS increase when this procs. Outside of this, balance while moving loses DPS, although mobility is still very good baseline, and even better in taking the Wild Charge talent.
Either choice is fine actually, you’re more likely to make it through sticky spots in the spec you are more comfortable with. To boot, the fact that Druids in general have access to the majority of the resto healing kit via resto affinity makes either choice ok as well. Lastly, I’d highly recommend getting familiar with all of the specs and use them to your advantage when situations warrant it.
I think Feral is better than Balance but that’s just me. Everyone is going to have their own preferences. Feral has better AOE than Balance, but Balance has more burst damage than Feral.
Nothing beats locks and hunters for leveling. When you just hit 120 feral is very rough. Once geared though, I cat tank 121 rare’s without issue. Instant flight form, battle heals, stealth, interacting with object while in flight form. It’s a good package to work with.
