If two content patches per expansion is going to be the norm they should tell people when the expansion launches. Yes, we only got two for WoD but that was an aberration, until now.
I came back to WoW during the pandemic because I had time to kill but I will not be renewing my sub or coming back again if this is the norm. Yes, a lot of people didn’t like SL, and yes the pandemic hampered your workflow but if the concept of Shadowlands was not meaty enough to get three content patches, then you should have done something else for this expansion.
You don’t learn from past mistakes, you don’t listed to feedback, you don’t properly QC your content, and you don’t perform at the level you used to. Even D4 and OW2 have been pushed back to 2023. You were an industry leader and an industry innovator, now you are an industry punchline.
Much like with WoD I expect this is less going to be the norm and more “this has dragged on long enough so let’s just move on” and stuff either got cut or crammed into existing patch content in a smaller form than it was originally planned to be.
Well I suspect they had a lot of wrenches thrown into their already slow development. I wouldn’t count on 10.0 being like SL, just my hunch.
I just look at SL as a write off in a way. They probably had much more planned and much more things to put into it but ultimately were thrown for a loop. Not justifying it but I’m just saying it how I see it.
OP seems to think the devs at Blizz are oracles and can predict what will be considered a “success” and what won’t.
They hit almost all the hallmarks of a complaint thread, but they’re missing the “slap in the face” part.
SL is trash and if the rumors I’m reading are true in it only having two patches … then I’m gonna be thankful the devs are willing to throw in the towel to move onto the next thing (which will hopefully be better.)
The last time they did two updates was WoD - which OP mentioned. Guess what WoD had in common with SL? You guessed it! It was a flop too. Instead of doubling down and moving forward with an unsuccessful product … they’re moving on to something else.
Yet, here we have individuals like OP upset … as the saying goes, “you can’t make everyone happy.”
Honestly, with how unpopular this expansion has been two content updates and moving on might be the best plan. Let’s just hope this time they are actually paying attention and stop repeating the same mistakes they have the last two or so expansions.
If memory serves, Blizzard attempted to bring the naming conventions for patch numbers back to how they did it in Vanilla/BC, where patches with mechanic updates were X.1 patches and the small tweaks were X.X.1 patches and the like (Vanilla ended on something like Patch 1.12.2 or something like that), but the community blowback stopped that.
Without the blowback, we probably would see every expansion get up to X.6 or X.7 since the X.X.5 patches would’ve qualified for a full number.
Clearly you haven’t been following what has been going on. They planned for a 9.3 but scrapped it after the amount of criticism it got and unsubs has counted farther down than WoD I believe. This won’t be the new norm. I’m hoping we can at least get four in the next expansion.
That really depends, if the quality of the base expansion is good and the two content updates are solid it just means we can move into newer expansions faster. Honestly three content updates was never that great anyways. I mean look at the last content update for Legion and BFA and tell me you wouldn’t have rather they just pushed out the next expansion a few months sooner
Imagine instead of capitalizing on a global pandemic in which everyone was inside and ripe and ready to get lost in a video game. You put forth extremely minimal effort and crap out two extremely bare bones patches with the longest time between their releases ever and refuse to make a good game. Then taking to twitter to cry about it. Blizz is a joke.
Then they shouldnt have charged full price for a product they couldnt deliver on. If essential workers could be outside the whole pandemic putting themselves at risk you can work on a COMPUTER GAME remotely.
I liked argus personally and we do lose raid content per expansion if its only 2 patches if there going to have less continent going forward make the new expansion purchase cheaper idk
Because if you’ll be satisfied with garbage content patches like 5.1 “Landfall” and 5.3 “Escalation” that should be pretty easy for Blizzard to crank out trash like that.
Oh, but then everyone will complain about how terrible it is (and rightfully so), so ¯\ _(ツ) _/¯
