That was quick, lol. Not unexpected though, Sunfury Arcane received a massive last minute nerf and Spellslinger was slightly buffed though still far from a top performer. I am honestly kind of relieved. As a long time Arcane player it was very jarring to see the influx of FOTM players picking up Arcane, often for the first time ever, not because they enjoy the spec but because a guide told them to play it. I think the community is better served by players genuinely passionate about the spec with a deeper knowledge of its inner workings and able to offer better feedback to devs.
P.S. It will also be nice not to have to load hundreds of Spellfire Spheres when zoning into Dornogal, lol!

I finally got around to learming arcane after not playing it since like cata. It’s a shame fire couldn’t dodge the nerf ball at least.

Being genuinely passionate about a spec means you will be passed over for groups for the other guy who just picked up the “better” spec

And generally, the person who is passionate about the spec is always the better pick, since they will know their class inside and out.

Exactly. And that holds true irl as well. Who would you rather work on your house, a carpenter with 20 years of experience who loves what they do, or someone who has never worked with wood before but decided to take a few online classes and go into carpentry because it’s suddenly in demand?
They are. But the people accepting group applications doesn’t know that, they just see a feral druid and all the stuff they hear about them being bad. And this is for low mythic too. Passion for a spec isn’t practical, it’s more logical and better for progress if you switch to the one performing the best, I would rather play a spec I enjoy more but that’s not how the game works the majority of the time. Sometimes you get lucky but that’s a lot of extra time and applications

Try putting comments in your applications to group.
Things like “I’m the best druid you’ll ever play with”
I find all my less desirable classes, when I put comments in the request, I have a way higher chance of being invited.
Helps if you’ve done enough keys to have a decent score too.

Sad, having to brag to get invited to a group. Your spec should just be wanted.

I have to say, this works more often than not. I’ve gotten into a number of things by using the little comments block to call attention to myself.
It’s not sad, it’s a basic tactic for anything. It’s like making your resume pop.
When they’ve got 15-20 DPS applying, what do they have to go on? Ilvl, mythic score, and class.
Or you could just host your own groups.

Honestly probably won’t need it. As a mage you bring arcane intellect and time warp which if you are more geared than most makes you highly picked on its own.
Considering the gigantic nerfs that Sunfury got, that’s not really surprising. And I still think the nerfs to Arcane Blast and Barrage were unwarranted.

This is such a ridiculous comment. “Im so glad they made the spec unfun again so less people play it! Ive been playing it for a long time, and it was suprising people picked it up once it was fun!”
Like what? Youre happy they nuked sunfury because you wanted to gatekeep the spec when it wasnt fun? And now youre happy that they made the spec boring again?
People didnt pick it up because it was over powered, they picked it up because they reworked it to have a high skill cieling that felt super fun and rewarding to learn… now its just another boring proc based spec.

That’s a crazy take. Of course I am not glad they ruined the spec, I’ve been playing it for 20 years and continue to play it, I am not a masochist, lol. And people were definitely not playing Arcane because they thought it was fun or liked the rework. The majority were only playing it because it was a top performer and being miserable doing it due the high skill ceiling, as you would have known had you been keeping up on the mage forum discussion and the influx of frustrated players over the past several weeks. But go off I guess.
I feel like we’re all being a bit melodramatic. The rotation feels pretty similar to me. Slightly different, but this crazy rework like everyone seems to think this is.
Here’s a good explanation of the rotation, and I think if anything, the spec has become more rewarding because now you need to pay attention to your mana bar:
Can’t seem to edit my post: that all being said, the damage nerfs were heavy handed and unnecessary.
Yeah the rotation change isn’t the biggest problem, it’s just clunky and annoying. The real problem are the incredibly heavy handed nerfs. When you combine the latest nerfs with everything else they nerfed up to this point it’s just too much.
I was just happy to have my favorite mage spec be top, I never clicked with fire when I made my mage back in tbc and every iteration has just failed to grab me and frost is…certainly a spec that exists.
The frost laser is neat…that’s all I got.
