One thing WoW definitely improved on over the years

One thing that bugged me back at launch was how female playable characters had to be so, I dunno, cutesy compared to the males (also bugged me that male characters had to be roidy meatslabs). It got worse with BC, but from then on Blizz has been better at making male and female characters look like they’re at least from the same race.

Let me stop for a second to say I’m not against cutesy female characters. I’m not against cheesecakey female characters. (And I’m not against meatslab male characters). What I’m for is sliders and options.

Anyway, that out of the way, watching people play FF14 I realize Blizz was actually doing better than I thought right from the start. Kind of a turnoff that the only options for female characters in FF14 are cute or cheesecake. And then there’s the animations and emotes…

I mean, yeah, I like anime, and I probably would make at least one cutesy or cheesecakey character, but I still think an MMO should have more options for female characters than just those two (and more than just WWE wrestler for male characters). And I think, despite the lack of customization options compared to just about any modern game, Blizz does this a bit better with the newer races*, but YMMV.

*Other than the allied races that are just old races, like void elves and lightforged spacegoats.

From what I hear, “cutesy” and “cheesecake” characters are a big part of anime, so that’s why they do it a lot in that game.

Female players always pick cutest races with skimpiest mogs if you give them that option.

Yeah when they said that they were going to improve the character creation I was sadly disappointed when it actually happened so many other games do it so much better like elder scrolls online and guild wars 2

Honestly, if I see a half-naked female elf, I usually assume it’s a guy, but if I see a fully clothed female Tauren or Orc, I usually think it’s an actual woman.

Cutesy?

Female trolls, tauren, orcs, dwarves definitely didn’t hit that vibe for me pre graphical update. If anything, the female races are way more cutesy now than they ever were due to the whole PIXAR aesthetic they got going on.

Orc girls are the ideal girls.
But yeah, warcraft races are more diverse. FFXIV ones are hot human with animal ears

Reagent tab is the best thing in the game. I’d pay for another on some toons.

Not all female players. I prefer animal races but FF doesn’t have one yet.
They did just come out with a humanoid tiger but it just comes in male. I may play that, not sure yet.

Wow is the top mmo where someone can play as a “monster” ish race character…maybe that’s why there’s so many horde players. The game creator can choose to make whatever fantasy races they want in their game, it’s their creation afterall
