When I started if you picked pvp you had to pick a faction and that was the faction you stayed on that server, no switching. So I had an Alliance server and a Horde server. Pve/rp you could be both factions on one server. Wonder if they are going to implement that again?

Nah, they'll just put warmode in and not have PvE/PvP servers at all.

Could you do both factions on a pve realm back in vanillia? I played on an eu pvp realm with my friends back then and didn't move to pve until wrath.

You could play both factions on a PvE realm, yes. That was a restriction only for PvP realms.
@OP: I hope they keep that restriction in Classic personally. To this day I still have one faction on a PvP realm and the other on PvE realms out of absolute habit.
