I’m not asking for this to be changed but it still is bad design.
NPC’s can be killed by flagged opposite faction players.
If there was a good PVP solution to all of these NPC’s that would be awesome.
Unfortunately there are at least 2 that the PVP solution fails on.
Farmer Saldean and the Defias Escort quest.
The respawn timers and the amount of time it tales for the Defias to reappear and walk back to Moonbrook = Horde can kill them, be killed and get back before the timers are up to keep making it impossible for lower levels to finish these quests.
Crossroads is usually camped 24/7 by Alliance who kill all the questgivers as well.
Low level questing zones were usually a huge mess. I had to grind my way through the Barrens and Westfall more than once because all the questgivers were dead.

Never leveled an alliance but xroads was usually doable even with alliance around. Can always do silver pine

I think in my entire career of playing WoW… I only completed that quest once xD
And I was a major altoholic back in the day…
Just issues finding a group, people harassing, horde, the group failing, waiting in line/line too long to start quest…
Overall, it just was not worth it xD
Easy Solution… Play when it is not prime time.

My only issue is that gnomes were created too awesome. They broke the game. They should be available to both factions. It’s only fair.

General rule of thumb is to skip most, if not all, long respawn, long duration escort quests. Especially during server launch.

At least 1 person is writing this down for the wrong reasons.
You’ll probably have to fly to storm wind and ask trade chat for some help. It was pretty common a high level would help clear out horde in nearby friendly zones.
You’ll want to avoid all chicken quests if the thought of the quest no betting ganked upsets you.

If alliance head just south of ratchet in the barrens you can find Horde players doing an escort quest of a Blood Elf (yes they existed in vanilla, and they where SUPER ugly) all the way from Northwatch hold…
The thing takes like 20 minutes, and Alliance can kill or, or simply mind control it and completely reset the damn thing…
I’ve only managed to complete that quest ~ twice on something like 15 characters coming through the Barrens because of Alliance interference… So I’m afraid I can sympathize, but my boiling rage just thinking about that quest almost getting done so many times then ruined just makes me want to exterminate every last one of you alliance scum.
Seriously though, on topic… I wouldn’t mind escort Qs being given some form of immunity to players, but it’s not a large enough issue to get all that worked up about… I would however, stress that removing DHKs (which completely fail in their purpose as a deterrent for griefing, and only stop people from WPvPing entirely) needs to be part of this discussion. I’d close out by saying that as a replacement, there could be some work done with the improving the town-guard response function to better protect those specific NPCs that where considered DHK (or just make them immune/non combatants too)

I’m confused. How is there not a PVP solution to horde killing your NPCs?

There’s no PVP solution when the enemy faction can kill the NPC, die, run back and res–>1-shot the NPC when said NPC respawns because it takes 5-15 minutes for quest NPCs to respawn.
At that point there’s nothing you can do outside of hoping some high level can 1-shot/CC the griefer as they res, before they kill the NPC.

Moooooooom! The PvE players complaining about human interaction again!

They send one of ours to the hospital, you send one of theirs to the morgue. Escalate until a huge battle takes place.

Just come back later, I never had a problem completing every single quest, some of them you just had to wait. Same with group quests, if you can’t solo it then just wait a few more levels.
Only quests I had trouble with are dungeon quests and getting groups back in vanilla was harder unless you had a really good guild. Which is unrelated to this thread since the other faction can’t come in your dungeons :3

I was able to get most escort quest done back in vanilla but of course most of them weren’t done right at server launch. The only one I gave up on was the turtle one in Tanaris and that wasn’t because of horde interfering. It was more because twice I accidentally impatient and moved too far away making him despawn. I decided it wasn’t worth it after that.

Wah wah…Oh come on…The Defias Messenger isn’t that bad. Wait on his spawn timer, if he doesn’t spawn in Moonbrook after x time he’s probably on the road already heading to the mine. Go run and find him.

This design is built to encourage pvp grouping. Your preference for less pvp grouping is not everyone else’s. Therefore this is not “bad” design but rather design that doesn’t match your preference.
You are essentially claiming blue is better than red because you prefer blue.

How is this bad design? Maybe your faction should organize to protect the pvp flagged NPC’s? Or do you lack the agency to find solutions to issues caused by fellow players?
