One-hand Sword for Casters?

In Legion I played as a mage, and I enjoyed that when I play fire, I can have a sword as a mage and I can transmog it to whatever sword I like. Although for the other two specs I’m still stuck to staffs, the fire artifact provided the variety I wanted. All other caster classes didn’t have the option, but at least for fire mage I can use whatever sword I like.

Moving to BFA, although we can still transmog our weapon to the artifact appearances, we are stuck with the artifacts. In other words, if I want to have a sword as a caster, the only option I have is playing a fire mage, and I can only use artifact appearances, not other swords that I may want to transmog to. Actually it has been a while since casters had any good options for swords in general (some other threads like this and this are also pointing out the problem), and I’d love to see that changed. Currently I can think of two options:

1. Make some caster swords.
It seems that the majority of caster weapons in BFA are wands, staffs and daggers, and not many options for swords. For example, in dungeons in BFA we have 3 staffs, 2 daggers, 2 swords and 1 wand, but in raids there are only 2 staffs, 1 wand and 1 dagger and no real options for swords. It can be just me but I feel like the dev team has been more or less neglecting caster swords. So I do wish that they can shift some of their attention to the sword category.

2. Lift the restraints on transmog
I understand that option 1 can be difficult for various reasons. It could be the dev team is focusing on other things or just not many people are interested in caster swords. So I think an alternative to making real caster swords is to allow us to transmog our wands/staffs etc. to swords or daggers or vice versa. Melee classes are already able to transmog many weapons interchangeably, and I think it would be awesome if casters can do this as well, especially considering that our animations are not dependent on weapons themselves. And if we can transmog a staff to the fire artifact, then at least it shows it’s viable to transmog between different types of weapons. I think this option can be actually better than the first one because it’s future proof, and it guarantees that even in a future expansion where we don’t have a specific type of weapons, we can still have the chance to make our characters the way we like them to look like.

So these are my thoughts on caster swords and if you guys have more suggestions, please post them here as well! Thanks :slight_smile:

On a similar note, I really don’t think it’d be all that gamebreaking if my fire mage could use the frost mage tower appearance he spent days of attempts earning…

I know this is challenging and many people have different expectations when it comes to transmog, but I also think it can get better :slightly_smiling_face:

Pretty sure I saw something in 8.1 about some of the restraints for mogging removed.

Yes I think it says for reputation-locked transmogs if you have one character that satisfies that reputation requirement then all your characters can transmog that appearance. That’s a nice feature indeed

BUMP why do warriors and melee get to transmog any 2h or 2h but casters don’t get to transmog a dagger to a sword or visa versa…literally makes 0 sense

bump, where the hell is the caster swords that some people want? im looking at the honor vendor and there are only daggers.

you will stop losing, or lose less, players from your game if you continually reduce the things that frickin’ annoy us… just saying =D
