With Blizzard introducing the new One-Button Rotation Assist feature, I wanted to spark a discussion on what this could mean for players using handheld gaming PCs like the Legion Go, Steam Deck, or ROG Ally.
Personally, I think this is a huge quality-of-life improvement for folks who want to play WoW on the go without needing to rely on complex macros or external peripherals. One of the biggest challenges with handheld gaming devices has always been limited input options. Condensing core rotations into a simplified assist system could make it far more feasible (and enjoyable) to play all specs, not just the “simpler” ones, on a small screen and button layout.
That said, I know there are valid concerns about skill expression, automation, and how this might affect PvP or high-end PvE. Some might feel it oversimplifies a game that’s traditionally valued mastering your rotation and class.
So, what do you all think?
Is this a smart accessibility improvement or a slippery slope toward oversimplification?
Would you consider playing WoW on a handheld device with this feature?
Do you think this helps or hurts class identity and rotation depth?
Looking forward to hearing your takes—especially from those who already play WoW on handheld systems or are thinking about trying it now!
Fair enough! I get that perspective. I don’t expect Blizzard to design around handhelds either, but features like this can still benefit a wider range of players—including those using unconventional setups. No harm in more options, right?
It’s awesome to see how far handheld gaming has come—but with the new one-button rotation assist, playing on devices like the ROG Ally or Legion Go is about to get way more practical.
Instead of wrestling with awkward keybinds or external controllers, players can focus more on what makes WoW immersive beyond just combat—like appreciating zone architecture, diving into archaeology, relaxing with some fishing, or just exploring the world at your own pace. This could really open the door for a more laid-back, immersive playstyle on the go.
Can’t wait to see how people use this to engage with parts of the game that often get overshadowed by endgame meta!
Totally fair—and yeah, GSE walked so SBA could stumble confidently into the future!
At this rate, in a few years we’ll be tanking Mythic+ from a smart fridge while fishing in Valdrakken on our toaster. The form factor wars will be settled when someone clears a raid from a smartwatch using only eye-tracking and caffeine.
Yesterday it felt like a punishment for veterans, today it feels like a gift for handheld enjoyers. Tomorrow? Who knows, maybe I’ll claim it’s a secret plot by Anduin to unify class design under the Light.
I’m just here for the spirited debate—and let’s be honest, if WoW players can’t overanalyze a single button, are we even playing the same game?
Totally fair to call out repetition if it were just rehashing the same point—but each thread I’ve posted covers a different angle of the one-button assist feature: gameplay impact, accessibility on handhelds, class design implications, lore humor, and community reaction. The discussions have been unique, even if the feature itself is the common thread.
Exploring a major new system from multiple perspectives isn’t spam—it’s conversation. That’s what forums are for, right?
Hey, I prefer to think of it as multiclassing my opinions—sometimes I spec into “concerned veteran,” other times I queue as “handheld evangelist.” Gotta keep the forum boss mechanics unpredictable, right?
Besides, if Blizzard can change class design every patch, I figure I’m allowed a little wiggle room too.
I love the idea of the one-button assist, even though I’ll probably never use it (I’m a dedicated healer 99% of the time)
I personally don’t even see the need for the GCD penalty, as it will still be less effective than people timing cooldowns properly.
I don’t own any handheld devices like steam deck, but I would probably play WoW on it if I were going out of town or something and just wanted to get my crafting or farming done. I’m not going to pack up my whole desktop for two or three days with the family at Christmas.
There’s this interesting feature on the PTR that lets you target by just facing the target with your character. Like, no pressing anything, just face them and it targets them.
Also trying out some 1 button shenenyans. First impressions seem like it’s a helper rather than a full solution. On a Destruction warlock. It’s only casing Chaos bolt, Conflagrate, Soul Fire while it keeps up wither casted from Cataclysm, but it did nothign else. No big CD’s at all, no matter if in AOE situation or single target.
From what I gather this is going to reduce buttons and mental load a lot, but it’s not a complete replacement, and also it isn’t developed to be. The more simple the rotation, the more effective this will be, but the major thing it seems to be doing is reducing the amount of thing you have to press based on the talents chosen.
