What is the point of gear? Do I just collect motes to make gear to be scrapped for minor stats?

Once you are past a point I wonder if it is even worth the effort to do that, you get such little amounts of stats. And when I say past a point, once you can solo like an M50 in DPS spec, there really is nothing left to do outside of achievements unless you plan to push into the M100+ key range.
I like Lemix, but I also think they could have toned it down a little on the power gains. MoP was too much bronze to gear, and therefore you felt like you were not making ground with the vendor items, Lemix feels far too easy to gear.
I am keeping a couple different sets of gear just because i don’t know which stats are best yet. Basically, get 740, get all the right jewelry traits, and then optimize stats. i have a speed set and a leech set but not sure which will be best.
Otherwise stack infinite power to make getting those last achievements easier. I do kind of like that there is an end to the main gearing, then I can just get bronze for the items, get the last achieves and feel done until each next phase drops.
And then level a few alts with huge xp buff to unlock the heritage armors I still need.
Then also go back to finish a couple of things in retail.

You make another character.
Once you hit 740 with ideal stats, the devs’ hope is that you roll another character and do it all over again.
Completely oblivious to the fact that nobody wants to regrind infinite power again, but they don’t play the game themselves so why would they know this?

Yeah this is a good point. Even if I do some alts I will not be grinding anything on them once they level cap

You probably want to go as much leech as possible if doing M+ since healing isn’t really a thing. It makes a huge difference since so long as you aren’t getting 1-shot, self healing is king for survivability. Speed is nice if you are doing anything else besides M+.

They should add MT appearances at +100 keystone just to watch people meltdown.

How did you manage to get all the best in slot ?
I have all BIS 740 gear with perfect stat allocation, all BIS jewellery. So now i’m just looking for the same gear with different tertiary stats. Want a full set of BIS speed, avoidance, and leech set. Then i can use the avoidance set once if i decide to do really hard stuff and speed for really easy stuff. I’m not sure if there are any softcaps or diminishing returns with these tertiary stats though.
Personally, I won’t be doing that. I will be making other characters and leveling them to 80 in order to get the fel mount for each class. But I have no intentions of grinding gear for them.
As you gain more IP and therefore more vers you are going to need less and less avoidance, once you can run a key level and survive any tank busters and any AOE on mass pulls, leech is better.
You might think you want avoidance so you can survive better, but as long as you survive, even barely, the 25% leech you get from having that on each piece of gear far outweighs the other two stats.
OP is right and it feels bad to have to turn motes into gear just to salvage the gear. Just give me infinite power directly.
