Was it ever addressed in-game? Is it a mythic only storyline? Is it in the new book? Does the prepatch say anything about it? Does shadowlands storyline tell you what happened? Did the devs forget about the giant sword sticking out of the ground bleeding azerite?
As of now, nothing of note.
Blizz did say they had not forgotten about it and will use it for a story latter.
If I had to take a guess- AND I SHALL- its this: The sword hit C’thuns prison and dismantled part of it. Azerite flows into said prison and gives said old god a jump of sorts. New bigger crazy super ultra mega bugs pop out of the sands and start doing things.
The titan watchers and titan forged get off their seats, use the forge of Wills to make new titan forge go and fight said bugs, and then use the same magic.runes/things that were never told about but had to have been used based on lore to make a well of eternity 3.0.
C’thun then comes out of hiding, takes a bath in that well and we get a real old god xpac.
OR.
It just kind of stays there and becomes a sore point in the lore.
Much like Silithus in general, we’re just going to go back to pretending it’s not there.
“What giant sword?” --Blizz
The druids are throwing leaves at it!
It’ll be fine, everything is just fine…
Speaking of things they forgot about, at what point can we officially say they forgot about the whole firing the big goblin gun aimed at SW?
C’thun in his prison, seeing the walls shudder: “At last! My prison is broken, and I am free!”
Sees sword point hurtling in at five miles per second: “… %*#€.”
Vanishes in a burst of superheated plasma
There’s lots of stuff that’s used when needed and then quietly ignored otherwise.
I mean, the Draenei have a spaceship with lasers and stuff. Quietly ignored.
Seeing as it was made by Goblins that have a tendency to blow themselves up…um…do you really want to risk that?
Druids turn it into a giant tree and the Night Elves live there happily, drinking and dancing the night away.
With the random statistical death from falling.
Azeroth’s gonna loot it the second she hatches.
He who draws the sword from the stone…
I want to see them fire it only for it to fly off and hit nothing because they didn’t account for the curvature of the planet.
we only have to make sure it’s the goblins that will use it
they blow SW= win
they blow themselves= win
they blow SW AND themselves= mega win
Maybe it will blow up Orgimmar and Blizzard will finally be forced to give us a new, actually finished faction capital city.
Or it gets caught in a wind gust and in typical Goblin fashion shoots Org instead of SW.
Well, some may consider that also a win.
Its probabaly going to be the new tree and transform silithus into night elf land
It was addressed in 7.3.5 where we sacrificed our artifact weapons to stop the blade’s corrupting power.
We then spent our time in BFA collecting Azerite to put back into Azeroth herself.
So we solved the problem, and the sword will stay because there’s nothing we can really do about it, or even want to.
They fire the cannon just as Queen Azshara rises out of the ocean riding on the back of the giant octopus Ozumat seeking her revenge on the world, the projectile strikes them both and kills them instantly. THE END.
