If shadow is void, and death is separate, why was the land of death called Shadowlands?
Was Shadowlands a horrific vision?

WoWs lore generally works better when you don’t think about it
I try not to, but i was told i was wrong on GD, so now I want answers
Everything related to the Shadowlands cosmology chart is non-canon. I’ve declared it as non-canon on the grounds that it’s dumb, therefore you don’t have to worry about it. None of it is real, none of it exists, some guy just made it up but he was wrong because it’s dumb.
So you’re saying theres a chance Garrosh can come back then
I subscribe to this ideology
He never left. He’s still the warchief. You were abducted by shadowy forces and put in a lotus eater machine where they try to gaslight you into believing he was deposed.
Void and shadow are definitely the same thing, even on the cosmic realm chart. Or rather shadow is the fundamental element behind the Void and necromancy.
But on that chart, necromancy is in the school of death.
Wait didnt we learn in thr Shadowlands that every magic can necro? Wrf is goin on here.
Holy necromancy makes no sense to me because the the Light can literally resurrect ppl. Calia shouldn’t be undead.
Void and Shadow are adjacent on the bottom-right of the chart while Reality is dead center (presumably Azeroth is in Reality). “The Shadowlands” is lower-right of Reality (and opposite from The Emerald Dream). The Shadowlands is in-line towards Undead, Necromantic, and Death. Old Gods, Void Lords, and Shadow/Void are due south from Reality on the chart.
It probably has something to do with the phrase “shadow of death”. Therefore where the souls go after death would be the “Shadow’s Lands” or “Shadowlands”.
Shadow is a type of magic. It exists on the edges of the Void itself. It’s why originally, Shadow Priests were not bat crazy “I WILL DEVOUR YOU WITH VOID OMNOMNOM!” They could touch the Shadows, but they didn’t have to peer into the Void itself. It was a delicate balancing act, in a way.
Because bad title? LOL Best I can do.
Necromancy can be used by other Cosmic Forces not just Death.
There is also 2 types of Shadow Death Magic(Red and Purple) which is what Revendreth and Mueh’zala use as well as Blue Nature Death Magic which is what Ardenweald uses and 2 types of Arcane Death Magic(Cyan and White) which is what Bastion and the Brokers use.
Death has 4 variants of Necromantic Death Magic: Maldraxxi(Teal Green), Drust(Cyan-Black), Mawsworn(Rainbow-Black) and Soul(Ghostly Livid).
Order has 2 Arcane Order Magics one being Iridescent Purple, Pink, Blue, Whitish-Purple or Orange Energies(which can be used for anything including Time Magic) and the other being Golden Sand(used solely for Time Magic). Order also has Golden Holy Order Magic.
Ah! Don’t worry, it all makes perfect sense! A long time ago, the Void invaded the Shadowlands and as a result of bashing the Kryian around for a while, the land [ ERROR: CRITICAL MEMORY FILE DELETED ].
and the one who made the cosmology chart is none other than the jailers jailer
probably because folks who go there, are essentially a shadow of their former selves.
…or something. shadowlands was’nt a good expansion and butchered the lore…
“Darkness without light is an abyss, light without darkness is blinding, you cannot have a coin with one side”
That 2d map of cosmology always rubs me the wrong way. Probably because I grew up with D&D planar concepts, which are a cube so everything wraps around and flows together.
A 2d map always begs the question - what’s past the edge of the map?
Everything in WoW now days is pretty liquid. No one or nothing dies forever. Any history can and probable will be re created to fit a narrative of something current. There is always an alternate timeline or universe that can be jumped to.
