So I’m kind of on a family PC and trying to get into the game again after a VERY long break, but am falling just short of the minimum reqs for Dragonflight, I am unsure for TWW considering the “can you run it” site doesn’t appear to have that listed yet.
My specs are as follows, and I want to preface this by saying I am not at all knowledgably with pcs beyond the basics, so parts are out of my league for sure.
AMD Ryzen 5 3500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx CPU
8.0 GB Ram
AMD Radeon™ Vega 8 Graphics GPU
The culprit seems to be the GPU, which is 1 short on dedicated VRAM according to the site. 2 instead of 3
I’m currently at the very beginning of DF and my fps tanks in populated areas to about 20-35, but with the resolution slider I can get up to 80 in non populated. So with this in mind, will I even be able to enjoy TWW on a meaningful level, or should I give up now? A new PC is not an option sadly.
I appreciate your time, thank you, and I apologize if this is all a silly, stupid or pain in the rear questioning.
Unfortunately, it is below the minimum specifications for the game. As the developers continue to release new patches during this expansion, they will be tailored for the minimum requirements and higher, so it may impede your ability to play at some point.
Only you can decide whether the experience will be “meaningful.”
VRAM is usually a hard barrier for framerate, as once you’re over that threshold, your performance will crumble. It’s a big pain point for Nvidia, since they keep shelling out 8 gig cards, while AMD is happy to hand out 12-16 gigs of VRAM in all newer cards.
Best you can do is try to use upscaling, and nerf all of your graphics. Maybe you can even dip into the driver level. Your game won’t be pretty, but it might be enough to do some open world and 5 man content. I’m not sure how much customization you do in the CVARs to see if you can lower things even further, but there might be a few options that go under the in-game limits. I’m not sure how it’d affect VRAM, but you could try DX11–however, this is usually a performance hit for modern cards, so your mileage may vary.
