I enjoy questing in kalimdor and the eastern kingdoms.
Will this still be possible in TWW? How major are the changes coming to the old world?
For those that were around when Cata dropped, what happened to your toons who were questing in the original Vanilla zones?
Why would anything be happening to old world zones?

Blizzard rarely change anything about old zones, and they won’t be changing them for TWW.
I assume the OP made this thread because of the involvement Silvermoon has in the future expansion, and the rumors that the zone might finally be updated. I am only guessing though…

They’d probably get the Zindormi treatment.

There aren’t any changes planned for the old world in TWW that we know of. That will be in Midnight, and we don’t really know what the changes will entail.

To answer this question,
I was working on Loremaster. I had finished Eastern Kingdoms and was only a handful of quests away from Kalimdor when the Cataclysm patch launched. My progress was wiped completely.
If they give anyplace in WoW the Cataclysm treatment again, I’d predict a full wipe of progress on quests in that area.

As others have said, they haven’t announced any changes to old zones for The War Within. The announced changes are for Midnight (Blood Elf region) and The Last Titan (Northrend).
Regardless, Blizzard seems to have learned their lesson on removing old content. We can’t undo Cataclysm (which is still really unfortunate; I wish I could visit/quest in the original zones without playing Classic), but every other zone that has been updated since Cataclysm has a Bronze Dragon NPC that lets you switch between the different phases of the zone.
They’ve even been giving access to some old dungeons they had removed (like the original Scarlet Monestery).
I wouldn’t be concerned about the old leveling zones being removed.

Thank you all for clarification!
Yes my concern was hearing about the plans to update certain zones in the future and was unaware when/if these changes were going to come.
I don’t want to to follow the story through old zones for it to be wiped before I can finish.
No changes to the old world in TWW, however, they are accelerating the leveling curve again in TWW, so expect to spend even less time in the old world than ever before.

Midnight at the earliest, and we still don’t actually know what/if any updates will occur.
Quel’thelas (and possibly the Draenei islands as well) getting updated is a safe bet, but nobody knows for sure yet.

There are changes coming to the “old world” in The War Within?
There’s 0 reason why they can’t add a bronze dragonflight npc in stormwind to turn the world back to the classic zones. Disable flight too so there’s no rework needed and minimal effort on blizzards part

Thats why I’m asking, I heard some zones might be updated in the near future.
in midnight they will take quelthalas and make it as big as dragonflight zones.
Eh, I don’t know about 0 reason, it would definitely take work and there’s not a huge amount of demand for it.
I would personally like to see it, but I don’t expect it.
Right, but nothing in The War Within from all the alpha information. Midnight mentioned updated parts of Northrend and Quel’thalas, but I assume it won’t replace the zones like Cataclysm did; Blizzard has better phasing technology and we haven’t had zones entirely worked over with no way to return to the previous versions since. See: Darkshore, the Dark Portal, etc.
