Old sounds/ models/ scrolling combat text

forgive me if im wrong on the term, but the text that pops up when you do damage in retail, i feel like it felt and looked and sounded way better in older versions of the game. i cant remember was it wod or mop that you got rid of it?
i feel like the new version could belong on a mobile game or a game where you know damage is so insignificant because you know youre easily gonna beat it or something idk

also. IMO, the new models look very very goofy for some classes, human, gnome, i dont wanna get into an angry argument over it i just prefer the mop and prio design, the human female spin when mortal striking, it all looked so clean, now it just look like a childrens cartoon to me

idk. i just wanted to throw my opinion into the void

i REALLY wanna play shadowlands as im burnt out on classic, but i just hate that it doesnt look feel or sound anything like the wow i love tbh

The void would like something more hearty… like a steak or at least a pizza. Oh, and maybe a soul or two. Just for flavour, of course .

Some new models just have stylistic changes that you have no choice but to get used to.

I LOVE the new Tauren except for the :3 face? Bovines don’t have the little cleft lip thing that dogs or cats do? Also, she still mouthbreathes like the Vanilla model. Oh well, at least she doesn’t look like a cow Muppet anymore… :woman_shrugging:

humans for instance, got unquestionably worse, first off the hair of all races, what did they do? just add big clumps of strands that dont make sense? look female orcs long hair, and try to make it look cool… look like fiona from shrek no matter what you do.

humans though, both genders run and stand like idiots, the men dont have a single cool face or look, they look like those jesus action figures youd get from like spencers, the females have humongous bug eyes. idk how its even in question that the newer is better for anyone. to me it is incredible disrespect to wow

and the worst part is we never had a choice just like in many aspects of current wow. they just came up with something and forced it on us.

Yeah the human females to me look like Realdolls now. I hate them. At least the new customizations options in SL fixes that, though the animations are still bleh.

if they could just give us the option like they did in wod to use old faces, but for all of it, i would literally play slands even if i hated it just to support them

They removed the option to use old models because the Spaghetti code caused some animations to break.

idk what that means but they need t add it back with meatballs and extra marinara this time if u know what im sayin

Sounds/models are a no go (i miss the old gun sound instead of the crappy pea shooter) but you can get the combat text back pretty easily.

Blizzard themselves have an article about it.

there is an addon called ClassicNumbers that I found that uses the old form of scrolling combat text. I like it a lot, it doesn’t touch on all your points but you should look into it if you’re interested in it.

Edit: It’s really awkward for massive numbers, but that’s not gonna be much of an issue with the level squish in a few weeks.

what u mean a no go? they said no to it already? hey they said no to classic too

There’s no way to get them back that don’t break the TOS and there’s valid technical reasons as for why they won’t do it themselves.

Also people please stop with the “they said yes to classic they will say yes to anything”. Unless you get something like 300,000 people to side with you along Mark Kern, that’s a moot point.

i disagree.

and morph doesnt break tos. tons of streamers use it all day every day

I’m more than aware. It still does, Blizzard just doesn’t enforce it too harshly, specially after what happened when they banned Reckful for something fairly minor.

I mean morph was literally coded by someone who currently works at Blizzard (Starship).

i think it only breaks tos if it effects other people, but its just effects your pov

Dabbling in the game files is a no go and it does exactly that. It swaps variables around (the one that dictates what model your character looks like). Its the similar as using console commands to swap your model in old shooter games like UT or Jedi Knight 2, in these games everyone could see the change since it pulled the data from your game’s file though (also why cheating was ultra rampant, lol), but in WoW most data except what you see is server based so it doesn’t change anything for anyone else.

But like you said since its only on your end they tolerate it.

At least its the way i understand it, not a software engineer or anything.

“Spaghetti code” is programming slang for when a project lasts for so long that code heaps on code heaps on code heaps on code. WoW is ancient and as you can imagine, has LOTS of spaghetti code. For all the game’s issues, I actually understand and sympathize with the programmers on this one. They could try to tweak an animation only for a random mob in Netherstorm to bug out.

Agreed about old sounds too. Give me back my bow’s D O I N K
