I last played wow when MOP was released and have recently returned. I am a bit confused in quest progression and whether guilds are still a thing.
All the purple quests and blue quests? Blue is repeatable?? Are purple for factions? It seams like faction have a lot of cosmetic rewards and nothing practical. ( or am I missing something)
Are there still role specific gear?? I play Holy paladin but solo play as tank. Struggling to find holy specific gear but it looks like gear has all stats now.
There used to be great realm community and people were pushing for server firsts in progression. Is that still a thing? Was thinking of moving back to my old server (oceanic Caelestrasz) but is there any point?
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate.

Blue is repeatable? yes, Blue is a quest that can be taken more than once, usually a Daily or a Weekly. That one is not new - there were certainly lots of Dailies in MoP.
Quests in that horrible purple triangle are Very Important. You REALLY, REALLY should be taking those. The devs mark them to stand out that way so you won’t ignore them. They typically lead to unlocking something very important.
Yes, most gear has every primary stat you want. It does make casual gearing MUCH easier. Sometimes you will see a weapon or trinket with only one main stat, but usually every piece will work for every role. If you are minmaxing you will still use different items for each spec because of their secondary stats.
In my experience, realms died in the Mists pre-patch, with the introduction of cross-realm zones. Maybe your old one hung in there for a while. If you were in the “Server First” bubble, I can see it might have felt like that. But whatever sense of identity was left after CRZ was destroyed by realm merges.
“Realms”, as we knew them, are definitely on their way out. Stackables iike mats and pots are now sold cross-realm in the Auction House. You can chat or party cross-realm with a player from any realm. You can transfer items and gold cross-realm through the Warbank. You can now join any guild on any realm.
If you can find people from your old guild, you could chat with them or even rejoin your old guild, without having to move. Or you could make an alt on your old realm to check out the situation. In the end, you might decide to move, but I DEFINITELY would not move before having a VERY good idea of the current situation. Also ping times, considering OC.

Thanks so much for the response G. I am not really going to worry about moving servers anytime soon. Am spending more focus on the purple quests and no longer worried about getting abused for healing in Tank gear. =)

I’m sorry to piggyback but I can’t figure out how to start a new topic. My brain is frazzled at this point. I haven’t played since forever and I’m so lost.
I started a new account with new characters, one is 80, and I’m trying to start The War Within. I used the scroll and ported to Silithus, had one brief exchange, then nothing. No quests. Hearth’d back to IF, then to SW to pick up the trail.
Went to Chromie whose message was just that there was something happening, but not how to get to where I need to go, checked in at the mage tower for a possible portal. I went to Dalaran to see if I could pick up anything there, but again, nothing. Should I go to Silithus the old-fashioned way?
I was told that TWW should have popped up as soon as I hit 70, but I stopped playing her because I didn’t know what to do with her at that point and made some alts.
I understand that this is asking for serious hand holding but I don’t know what else to do. I’m completely lost. I don’t know if I somehow abandoned the quest, and don’t know how to get it back if I did.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, so new account, clean slate.
You got a character to 80 without starting The War Within? How? Quest and mob XP ends at 72 or 73 until you start TWW. There are other ways to get XP above 70, like Archaeology or Pet Battling, or Exploration, or Gathering. Did you do one of those?
Or was this a typo for “one is 70”?
Did you use the Boost you get with buying the expansion to reach 70, or did you quest/dungeon your way there?
If your character is 70, then I have to ask: have you bought The WarWithin expansion, and are you sure it has been added to your account? When you look at the BattleNet client, does it say:
World of Warcraft
WoW1 - The War Within
PLAY
just above the PLAY button?
Can you give the name and realm of this level 80 character so we can check its quest history?
Double-check your quest log, that the quest The War Within isn’t already there. You can’t get rid of it; it keeps getting auto-accepted everytime you enter SW.

I started out on Caelestrasz also, so I just wanted to pop in and say hello, I probably grouped up with you at some point many years ago lol. We had such a warm cozy server! So I can totally understand that it must be so different now.
I wouldn’t bother changing realms at this point. Are you still on an oceanic realm? Despite cross realm, I still think oceanic realms are generally friendlier servers. I still have a few chars on Cael but mainly am on Saurfang now. If you ever need a friend hmu.
