Old Gods Expansion?

Who else here feels like we should get an expansion focused around the Old Gods? Especially with there being hints that there’s a 5th Old God out there we haven’t encountered yet. And, I’m of the opinion, with how the storywriters are for this game, the whole “we killed the old gods we fought” doesn’t make sense given they can influence the mind. I personally would love to have an expansion where all the old gods we thought we killed, C’thun, Yogg-Saron, and N’zoth, along with the possible 5th Old God, all come back and show their true strength and influence, and we have to stop the world from being plunged once more into the Black Empire. Especially since Blizzard is already going the route of us being ‘chosen ones’ and ‘saviors of azeroth’, i want to at least be able to fight the Old Gods. Some of my favorite enemies, and I genuinely feel us just beating them in one random raid every other expansion doesn’t feel right

Tbh, i’m kinda done with old god stuff after N’zoth.

I just want to move forward and if they do void stuff, i hope it deals with the actual void lords, rather than the old gods

No thanks. I want to get back to basics, faction conflict.

While in concept I like the idea of kicking celestial butts, less messes to clean up and less busy bodies concerning themselves with what we do on our own planet…

I’m tired of having power taken away or “succeeding” only because we were “blessed” by an opposing power and thus didn’t actually earn it ourselves.

We can do better stories, but the players actually have to feel engaged with them, and currently bliz is more concerned with the speed runner and ladder climbers then the story makers.

I think they need to stay out of the “cosmic war” business…Shadowlands prove they do not know how to write it at all. Zovaal ended up being “Dollar Store Thanos” and the most generic bad guy I’ve ever seen in media. No motivations, no development, no real backstory to speak of, just “for the evulz”, and “I’m secretly behind everything even though I was just thought up, mwahahaha”. Oh, and 10-25 regular ordinary players can beat him up, with the only help being a magic crown that keeps his domination magic from working.

You KNOW they would do the void lords the same way.

If it were an interesting conflict, I’m all for it. The last few attempts to stoke that fire have been complete misses for me personally. Time for an alliance civil war >_<

I’m against this because at the end of the expansion, I don’t want another OH MAN YOU THOUGHT WE WERE BAD…dun dun dunnnnn. New gods… or something dumb like that haha

yeah… like they coulda done it like neltharion. that 3 parter where we were on his back and finally dropped him down was epic. it felt like we were killing a larger than life boss. jailer felt like we were collecting anima from a 5 man.

There will definitely be more old god stuff, without a doubt.

They were here first and definitely are not all dead.

The 5th old god is heavily implied to be Xal’atath.

All the other old gods have been done to death, literally. The next time we deal with void stuff should actually be in the void.

Let’s all kill the gnomes!

I hope not, Old Gods are boring. There’s a finite amount of ways to make fighting a tentacle interesting, and I’m pretty sure we’ve seen them all by now.

They had all the pieces there to develop him into a compelling villain. With Denathrius and the Dreadlords helping him behind the scenes, it is plausible for him to have been behind everything. The problem is, they never showed him doing any of the things he was said to have done. He wasn’t shown to be clever at all. All of the lines they gave him were worthless fluff.

If you want to have a compelling “man behind the man” villain, you have to develop them properly, and they…didn’t. The just wanted to copy Endwalker which kind of did the same thing but did it right. Even though they claimed this was always intended, it wasn’t. Zovaal was not conceived of until Shadowlands.

yep…a love-craft-fest…
i like it.

I’d enjoy an Infinite Dragonflight Expac
and the following second Cataclysm

The problem is they want to hide everything until it’s relevant. The whole, “oh it was a bigger bad guy, actually,” plot point always feels so cheap. That said this expansion has had a lot of compelling writing especially in the smaller stories so fingers crossed!

Yeah Ascians got much needed development and the pay off was amazing.

or… here me out… or…
next xpac the segue into it… is we wake up… in nyalotha inside a cell with a tentacle dude feeding us nightmares. the jailer thing and world of hugcraft was just a nightmare.
we fight our way out, but when we get out the world has been taken over by the void.

It seems like old gods are never a story focus, but a side threat to whatever else is happening. I’ve got no doubt there will be voidy shenanigans in 11.0.

My dummy prediction:

We are going to go to this Avaloren place with a bunch of renegade Titan constructs. It’s underground, and we have to help them with a mysterious affliction: the curse of flesh.

There was an interview with Ion at one point where he stated there would not do an old god expansion for the same reason they are not doing an emerald dream expansion and just making it a patch cycle. They would not be able to create enough different content to fill an expansion.
