What is the difference between the Xal’Atath and the Xal’Atoh?
They’re both Old God related weapons that induce whispers in their victims, with generally unknown origins.
The main difference is Xal’Atath appears sentient with its own thoughts and goals, whereas Xal’Atoh just repeats nonsensical, basic-level maddening whispers.
Both are implied to be chunks of Y’Shaarj(which means both have Echoes of Y’Shaarj)… The Artifact Lore for Xal’atath suggests that as a possibility!
Of course Xal’atath existed for longer and has learned better how to manipulate than Xal’atoh has even going so far as to imitate a feminine Voice(and get used to the feminine identity she adopted) rather than use Y’Shaarj’s normal Voice.
Xal’atath being born before Xal’atoh did has no access to what visions of the future the Heart of Y’Shaarj received during it’s resurrection through the Pools of Power born from the pools of Azeroth’s Blood from Y’Shaarj’s death(and we know Azerite shows possibilities of the future).
Xal’atath knows how to manipulate while Xal’atoh remembers the visions showed to the Heart of Y’Shaarj by the Pools of Power thus making both dangerous!
N’Zoth’s visions of the future of course come from Murozond who obviously blabbed about it upon joining him! This means N’Zoth knows exactly how to act in order to put his true plans into motion once the Hour of Twilight failed to derail Time!
I always thought the reason behind Xal’Atoh whispering repetitive maddening whispers was more gameplay related and not the lore? I wonder if more light will be shed on this weapon or has Blizzard pretty much dumped this weapon into the trash can lorewise for good?
Xal’Atath is an Actual full-fledged Old Goddess - who was consumed & had her / soul locked away in the blade as her prison, which was made by the other Old Gods to bind, whom teamed up to defeat her, all before the Titans discovered Azeroth. Hence why Xal’Atath was not a fan of the other Old Gods / made references to them to the High Priest, during Legion.
Xal’Atoh is merely a weapon that has absorbed Old-God Energies, and worked as a vessel towards the whispers of what remained of Y’shaarj.
Xal’Atath is not implied as ‘a chunk of Y’Shaarj’, it was speculated that she might had been a ‘chunk’ of N’Zoth, but that theory too was proven false.
Xal’Atath is her own entity, of whom is unrelated to Y’Shaarj, N’Zoth, or the other Old Gods - Except for the fact they teamed up to eat her & lock away in a blade for their own endeavours.
Whereas Xal’Atoh is just a renmant of Y’Shaarj’s power, and spread whispers that Y’Shaarj would institute upon the world.
