Hello everyone! I hope I am posting this in the right place. I have a question for long time GMs and devs about a very strange spell I came across online.
This spell is called Teleport: Treant!, and the tooltip states that it will teleport a GM to a Treant of some kind. According to Wowhead, this spell was added back in very early Vanilla, and still exists to this day.
After finding this spell, I got very curious and did a lot of roaming around online looking for what this spell did. All I could find were a couple of videos where a player with GM abilities on a localhosted build used it, and the spell would simply drop them straight into the void far, far off the map. I’m not certain which build these players were using aside from them being pre-Cata builds. This really made me wonder where this mysterious spell was actually intended to go. Is there a super secret area for the GMs aside from GM Island? I think that would be really really cool, especially since GM Island was recently removed entirely.
My current theory on this spell is that it was intended to go somewhere, but due to either lack of space on the game map or just plain because no one had time to build it, it was never implemented at all. What is most curious about this spell is that it’s still in the game’s database.
So does this spell go somewhere in the current day? Or is it simply an old leftover that never went anywhere? This particular spell is one of the few remaining mysteries of the game, and I’ve never really seen anyone investigate it.
The Wowhead entry on this spell gives no information aside from when it was added. I am unable to find further information on this, so I was hoping a GM or dev that’s been at the company for a long time might be able to shed some light on this.
Thank you Blizzard, for making such a fun and enjoyable game! I’ve played off and on since it released and it’s really come a long way. We the players look forward to seeing what your teams come up with next!
