That’s it. Adding old content with new achievements is not new content. It’s just FOMO
EDIT: The best example of this is the Enterprising Dungeon Master achievement. Which was added in 11.1.5 and does not retroactively award runs, and is time-limited to the end of the season. Also note, I already have this achievement
Adding reasons to go back to old content is good. Players have asked for evergreen content and adding achievements to old content is a way to do that. Not everything is going to be for everybody.
I don’t understand how you can’t see it. They want to double-dip. They could make stuff to be evergreen in an effort to just make the game entertaining, instead they try to manipulate us by limited releases with time gating time-limited FOMO achievements.
I do it because it’s pretty easy stuff, but I can feel it in my bones that one day, I’ll skip doing one, and that will be the end of me playing wow. like so many of my irl friends
I do like the idea of bringing back old stuff. But If they bring back old stuff in a new time-limited fashion it’s just the same old FOMO.
Instead, they could scale old challenges to the current level/ilvl as evergreen content. Perhaps a new expansion makes a challenge a little more accessible because of some tuning nuance – that’s honestly great because then it might become something of a fad that many that people do that season
In a way, my criticism here is that they are constantly suffocating themselves with time gating and limited releases. In a way, wow would be it’s most popular if one could select which patch they wanted to play in, with no time-gating at all. That would allow people to freely explore this game.
It gets even funnier once you realise that the entire concept of m+ is exactly the same since it also reuses content throughout an expac and therefore, according to some people’s logic, is also recycled content.
I wish I could like the OP five or ten more times. Visions is boring. I’ve tried it half a dozen times and it just gets worse each time.
As for those saying, “just don’t do it them”. Well, I have kind of given up. But you know what I AM still doing? Paying each month for a game to provide new content. At least SOME of it should be for those people who want something new and different instead of the ones who like to rerun old stuff.
Good thing we don’t have the same dungeons for the entire expansion like in Legion and BfA. Though some of the dungeons they reuse is questionable its a much better experience.
I for one am happy for Horrific Visions returning because the one thing I hated about them in BfA was the entry fee.
