Old Content Scaling and Ion's response in QA

How are you punished by doing older content?

Yea there was a stretch where ALL I did was log in to run old raids and farm mogs/mounts/achieves. Couldn’t and wouldn’t want to do that these days.

For real… There could quite literally be an achievement earned by simply having a max lvl character, that allows any of your characters that are at least of appropriate level to run legacy raids, 2-3 xpacs back, on ‘trivial solo-legacy mode’. Make everything basically a one-shot, and all drops are either cosmetic rewards, or quest items/mats only.
That way people can still just farm their old transmog, and of course, then those filthy casuals can’t run black temple to gear up. Cause obviously that’d be gamebreaking.

People used to stop xp on characters to run old raids and dungeons in PvE twink guilds. They wanted to get rid of that. And they did. Now if you’re bored after you’ve done your chores, maybe it’s time to quit.

They’d rather people quit than play the game wrong.

It makes the devs look bad if the metrics show more people engaging in legacy content than current content.

If you have a lot of alts that you haven’t leveled to max level, but still used to farm old raids; primarily for super rare stuff like mounts, legendaries, with the series crunches, but primarily this recent level squish, those alts are no longer viable.

Don’t get me wrong, I could PROBABLY play my old warrior or other old alts that were, in the 120-max level system, between lvl 60-90. And within 4-5 hours or so on each really pushing it, to get them set to be a solid 10 or so levels above each raid and solo. But this shouldn’t really be the case. If my warrior could solo a raid 9 years ago, that should never change.

I still do old content for fun. But a lot of the fun has been sucked out of doing old content due to AoE hard caps and scaling not working right.

Nowadays, pretty sure they are threatened with cuts to the development budget if people aren’t playing the new content. So rather than making good content, they make it hard to play old content.

Even Ilvl scaling almost made me call it quits the other day. When my druid farm alt with a super lower ilvl can stomp a group of mobs faster than my raiding monk main with heroic ilvl because of ilvl scaling… dude

Right? They keep stacking the roadblocks for players trying to do older content. I don’t see why? People should be able to do current and old content.

BlizZard should listen less to focus groups and more of their player base. I suspect that is why they shifted toward sending surveys out to players directly the last few years!

For me personally I am still really bummed this wonky scaling was never fully fixed. I have been playing consistently for the past six years and always found old raids a really fun past time. Now all I am missing are the legion and BFA raid mounts but I can’t work on that until who knows when. Oh well, I cancelled my sub and will be out of here soon. Another sub canceled due to this…

it never used to work that way - did Ion actually play before WoD in content other than raids?

This is NOT a good idea. We’ve had this ability all the way up until this POS expansion.

That is sad to see this but wish you luck. Simple fixes and it would make many players happy so they can do older content.

I’ve done 2 balance of powers since 9.0.5, and EN/NH at least were both super easy (running on a 220 lvl 60 elemental shaman and and a 112 lvl 50 prot paladin), only fight with any issues is M gul’dan, and that’s just because the demon within phase will still chain stun you to death

Farming old content has literally kept me subscribed the past month. It’s more enjoyable to me than the repetitive, monotonous, chore of a grind that Shadowlands has become.

Blizzard, if you want to funnel people into playing current content, provide more current content, and make that content FUN.

luckily i already got that mount, but i noticed that in bastion of twilight while farming embersilk, those orbs that spawn in first room and shoot light at you, they do a ridiculous amount of dmg. if you’re like maybe lvl 50 (which would be the end of bfa) or below they could probably kill you if you’re not careful.
