The one thing i couldn’t help but notice after logging onto the classic wow stress test is the total lack of cringe in the character models. Modern wow’s character models appearance and running animations look too pretty. They look pretty and bouncy. The old character models look grimy, dirty… gangster. Obviously this is a subjective opinion, BUT, If the most popular game right now is GTA, it doesn’t make sense to me how a majority can prefer the updated models. I’ve actually seen a few forum posts where people try to say that these new models actually look objectively better. That argument makes absolutely no sense because art style is and always will be subjective. With that argument, art from every previous era must indeed be inferior and worthless then.
-edited- for any future posts, bear in mind, I’m not even going to level anything up in classic wow. Keep your nostalgia arguments out of this thread because they aren’t related to the topic. This is a thread about comparing art styles. My first impressions of seeing the older models is that they look cooler. Nothing more nothing less.
Well that makes sense… because the old models are pretty hard to make out. You can squint your eyes really tight to get that good ol 240p look of vanilla models.
I don’t pay that close of attention in the game. The major difference I see between old and new models is a higher polygon and pixel count. More polygons and pixels is always better.
This image right here is a perfect example of what i am talking about. This image looks cool to me. It looks mysterious. It looks undefined. If this image had more “pixels” or whatever nerd speak you guys are so entranced by, it wouldn’t relay the same feeling.
The thing with modern models is that they suffer from the same face syndrome. There’s not much you can do to change it unless one selection has a different feature like an mature look. Overall this game sucks with character model selections which is something they need to work on. Perfect example is bring the scrapped female worgen hairstyles back and put it in the barber selection.
The difference between those two images of the squirrel is exactly what I am trying to bring attention to. The new squirrel looks good in one way while the older squirrel looks good in other ways. Neither of them is objectively superior. Art style is a subjective thing.
