What if we could choose to play our toons with older models? TBC blood elves. Old Draenei or broken. Classic looking toons.
If we can get dark ranger models, red draenei, and such… let us have the option to play as the older models? Terrible idea?

Before Classic that would have been fine but now that we have the option to play Classic. eh.

If I’m not mistaken, the rigs and the models were updated for the races when new spell casting animations became a thing. So when those were introduced, they had to disable the old models.

I don’t think your idea is terrible at all.
Case in point; original Everquest has been allowing its players to choose ever since they released “new” models 20 years ago. I personally switched as soon as the new models were available, but I’m reminded from time to time that there are still a number of players using the original 1999 models. Keyboard turning may be invloved in that decision process.

I want them to get a voice updated. The laugh is just way too loud and their jokes, much like the other women jokes in this game, are really awful and borderline sexist.

That’s why is wouldn’t work in reverse either because I’d play classic more if I had my upgraded toons.

I would definitely play the older DK model. Or at least have that option for RP.

I would LOVE that. I know the new animations are meant to be more “realistic”, but c’mon, look at the male human running animation, looks super goofy, I feel so silly on my DK. I will stand firm on this, animations and sound effects were better in classic than now.

My female Nelf now runs like a linebacker. My Worgen lost his smooth loping run for a bouncy shoulder swing that’ll take out my Nelf linebacker.

I… do not get why anyone would want to revert to 200 poly models in the year of our lord 2023. Sorry (but then, I’m not nostalgic for my atari 2600 either).
I’m more curious why people don’t want modern model updates for a classic+ version of wow tbh.
Blizzard would have to model and rig every new piece of armor to essentially double the number of models, which would take a lot of time that I’d rather they spend elsewhere.
On that note they should let us use old ability models and casting animations, i want old chaos bolt. Everyone thought a big green dragon head that arced up and then down towards the target was awesome. Wtf is this green goo we shooting now?

Or we could just ask for new face options with the new models. Which so many of the races need.
