Old Avatar of Destruction was better

Getting a passive mini Smolderon that most looks like an elemental than a demon to cast more Chaos Bolts than you simply has no fantasy and looks stupid and overdone. Give us Blasphemy back and remove this nonsense from the game. I don’t care if it’s insanely op, and it shouldn’t be.

Make Infernal central again and give us Flame Rift. Even Decimating Bolt would be better than this nonsense Avatar of Destruction.

i agree on the old avatar but would not want decimating bolt

The problem is that the stuns become so frequent that they negate a lot of mechanics, at least in dungeons and to a lesser degree in other content. Would you still want it if it didn’t have the stun?

They traded out the stuns for a bit of extra damage, but we will have to see if that damage is actually noticeable.

I really enjoy the stun, as lock in general is massively lacking in 5 man content utility. Even at the cost of a little extra damage, I’d favor the stun.

Decimating Bolt is a cool spell and I like it, but if we’re going to be adding CDF and Rift into our rotation, I am ok with its omission.

Oh the stun is definitely better (with a few dungeon expections), but I think it just gives too much automatic CC that happens by dpsing. During large pulls, you can almost chain them. I think that’s what they are trying to remove.

They said they could just remove the stun component because that’s the main issue and infernals are designed to behave a certain way, so they didn’t want to keep it and simply remove the stun.

here’s an idea:

Avatar of Destruction either amps your damage for a short time (buffs you, turning YOU into an avatar of destruction)

or

Ritual of Destruction: Ritual of Ruin causes your next Chaos Bolt to become Annihilation (a super juiced Chaos Bolt? or just higher damage with a damage amp tacked on?), or causes your next Rain of Fire to become Hellfire Storm (amps damage on all targets and/or burns everything in the area in addition to the empowered rain effect like hellfire+RoF)

I think those are more fitting AND capstone worthy without stepping into free-cc territory. Destro is SUPPOSED to be huge flashy chunky spells that DESTROY so… I’m in favor of my 2nd idea, but the 1st would be the easier lazier design that would still be cool with the right effects.

idk, man. The new avatar looks sick and feels sick, I wish the over-fiend cast Chaos Volley in Aoe settings prob getting a nerf I hope it does not.

they should do a new animation for the fiend to appear I miss the big meteor coming down from the skies, the guy just appearing is kind of meh

Overfiends are all green or purple, the dev seems to have accidentally used the fire elemental version of the model. Seems like a pretty major oversight.

I mean… summoning a demon that just throws big chonky spells for you isn’t very destruction warlock to me. I think OP is definitely right about it being against the spec fantasy in general which is why I proposed my own concepts to what it should be instead.

The ONLY thing making overfiend a destruction-esque thing is that it shoots chaos bolts… but summoning demons to proc big effects is VERY clearly a demo thing. Darkglare & Infernal I can live with since they serve very specific purposes in Aff & Destro but proccing some chaos bolt throwing demon as a capstone in DESTRO aint it conceptually (regardless of power).

I think old avatar wasn’t as egregious in that way because at least it was sort of just a copy of infernal but even then I didn’t personally like the concept of summoning more demons as destro. That’s just not the spec’s thing.

Would you guys really rather have some demon guy doing chunks of your damage rather than something more in the realm of what I pitched? genuinely curious

I’ve been playing destro more and I’m going to miss the meteor crashing down. I’ve yet to see the new design, but I hope to see some cool summon in for the redesign vs just “shows up”

When I was in hellcaller, the overfiend was like a floating demon with no legs. When I switched to diabolist it was the smolderon one. Idk why.

This would be really interesting visually at least. I remember back in MoP, I think it was Mannoroth’s Fury, made rain of fire massive. I think it was 500% larger? Anyway, it felt impressive because the space you could cover was ridiculous. So something that changes how the shard spender functions mechanically and visually could be fun.

One thing I haven’t tested yet for the overfiend because I’ve mostly messed around on target dummies is what happens if the target dies early. Does it suffer from the same problem as dimensional rift and won’t target or does it retarget if another mob is standing nearby. What happens if it’s summoned and the last mob dies as it’s appearing, does it just do nothing? If it suffers from those weaknesses, I could see advantages on your idea at least.

thanks. yeah I think it’s just cooler and safer to augment the existing big cool spells into bigger cooler spells which would also gel with the direction of how they’ve designed a lot of stuff in recent times… plus like you said it’d visually look awesome and IMO play much more into that power fantasy of destro-lock.

idk, conceptually I just think my idea is better than what blizzard gave us with this dumb demon who just throws out some more snotballs… and yeah I have similar concerns about how it works when your target dies or w/e, but even if it worked fine I’d rather have something closer to my ideas at least in destro.

demo having [shadow]bolt launching boys that drop down is very cool and on theme however

ah sounds awesome, we will never get that till the next expa, I lose all hope about big nukes when we get the hellcaller tree, hopefully, next expa they will give us big nukes, at least we have decimation this expa, so let’s stick with what we got for now

Remove the stun and increase damage. Problem solved.

I mean sure, but we should just bother them about it until it happens though because otherwise nothing will actually change.

Blizzard have shown that unless you make a big fuss about something they have zero interest in changing it, and even when you DO make a big fuss they still don’t change it sometimes lol (poor survival hunters)

I mean, the backlash about hellcaller tree was pretty big, they stick with that

it wasn’t nearly as bad as A LOT of the other hero specs… if anything it was middling complaints at worst relative to everything released.

you need to REALLY fuss to get things to change otherwise yeah they dont even consider it

That’s pretty much what was done. No stun and different model, but more damage. Honestly it’s way more damage and I feel will likely be nerfed.

I was doing some testing on the beta about 2 hours ago since details has a build for the beta and the overfiend was my largest source of damage. It beat out my chaos bolt even on single target.

When I was testing out hellcaller with overfiend, there’s the talent that makes it so that blackened soul can proc ritual of ruin. That with overfiend is absurd levels of damage right now.
