Shadowlands is a horrible place to be, at least let it be fun to level there.
Unfortunately, the option to choose Threads is Fate for Shadowlands was removed when Chromie Time was expanded to level 60 and began to include Shadowlands.
(If you have a character that chose Threads of Fate before the change went live, you can still finish all of the objectives.)
This is a shame, because Threads of Fate made leveling in Shadowlands content very efficient and rewarding due to the extra bonus objectives and wrapper quests for each zone.
Also, I am assuming that the Torghast and BG daily quests are not available if you don’t have Threads of Fate active.
I often give explanations for Blizzard decisions that other people don’t think of.
But this one puzzles even me.
Threads wasn’t too bad when you were actually earning end-game rewards whilst doing things like World Quests. But the regular story-mode was faster. The idea of doing SL World Quests exclusively for exp sounds miserable.
With that said, I recall someone saying it was a “system issue” with Chromie time expanding to 60. Sounds like a typical excuse.
- Developers’ note: The goal with Threads of Fate was to help alleviate the linear path of Shadowlands for alts as it was the only way for players to level from 50 to 60. Now that Shadowlands has been moved into Chromie time and Chromie Time’s level cap has been increased to 60, players have a multitude of methods to reach level 60. Players currently in Threads of fate can continue through it, but the option will not be available for any new characters.
We do not have plans to do similar removals with Dragonflight’s Adventure Mode in future expansions. Threads of Fate is a choice to use in Shadowlands and irreversibly changes a player’s character once it is chosen. It previously created two different experiences of Shadowlands, which would double to four with both of the level up and Threads of Fate being accessible within Chromie time. Adventure Mode in Dragonflight is an overlay to the level up experience and is always on once it is earned regardless of decisions the player makes.
The reason for adding Threads of Fate makes sense, but I don’t see a concrete reason for removing it.
One issue could be that theoretically if you chose Shadowlands for your Chromie Time at level 10, then enabled Threads of Fate, you wouldn’t have enough quest content to get you to level 60 because the leveling quests are all removed when you choose ToF.
I think the ideal solution would be to allow Threads of Fate and the leveling campaign to both be available simultaneously, and let the extra objectives be a bonus while players choose to level through dungeons, BG, Torghast, or traditional leveling quests.
Frankly, the benefit of Threads wasnt to quest, it was just dungeon spamming without having to hit level/quest thresholds. I have several twinks these days, and before I realized I could buy the heirloom map toy for flightpaths, the only way to get to the dungeons I wanted since Threads is gone was to quest through ALL of Bastion to get to the zone the dungeon was in. That was awful. I hated every second.
I have level 50+ toons that chose ToF before the DF prepatch, and did ToF normally after DF launched, so it is still fully functioning.
If you didn’t choose it before it was changed you aren’t offered it now unless you’re level 60. So you can’t take a level 50 in and skip using threads of fate anymore.
Because it was a dumpster fire of a an expantion in every single regard, content, story, zones, characters, lore. The reason why is blizzard wants you to forget about it, they are going to shove it into the corner until they can just WoD it away.
this, it’s still there but you have to be 60 so you can’t level through it but you can still skip all the story and stuff and go straight to korthia/zereth mortis or wherever you want to go
It’s unfortunate they did this. I planned to take all my lvl 50s in to get them to 60 while working to earn the covenant transmogs. But there is no way I’m running through each zones questlines over thirty times just to be able to access the zones. I planned to just do the WQs and covenant quests, but oh well, guess not.
So I’ve benched all my 50s, which is the majority of my characters. I have a four at 70 and that’s all I’m going to do.
Once you reach level 60 and enter Shadowlands on a toon for the first time, you will be able to skip the leveling campaign, but I am not sure about toons below level 60 that have already started on SL content.
just don’t level via shadowlands, why would you do that.
For the covenant transmogs.
just do that at max level when you can oneshot mobs and solo dungeons
Maybe once your toons reach 60, they can talk to the guy behind the inn on Oribos to turn on Threads of Fate to remove the requirement to do the leveling campaign?
Timewalking dungeons aren’t even available until level 60, so it will be painful to level multiple toons. Maybe you could turn on Chromie Time and level up in different expacs and come back to SL?
Something else to keep in mind is that there is apparently going to be an XP bonus event starting on June 15.
Below level 60 gotta do SL the long drawn out way.
It was. Partly because it was gearing trap (since WQs in Shadowlands rarely dropped gear, the game just got slower and slower), partly because it was such a pain getting around from zone to zone in Shadowlands (Dragonflight does not suffer either of these issues, although WQs refresh more slowly)
It wouldn’t shock me if this contributed to the decision to discontinue threads.
Threads of Fate wasn’t really so much about choosing to level using World Quests. Especially after they adjusted the bonus objectives, Threads of Fate was a combination of:
- You can do any of the side-quest chains in any zone
- The various bonus objectives scattered around
- The occasional World Quest
- Can enter any dungeon
- A large exp reward for 100% on the zone-wide objective
Since many of those could overlap, e.g. a side quest chain leading you into a bonus objective, or a side quest chain and a world quest in the same area, you could knock out multiple things in one go in at least some areas. Couple that with being eligible for any dungeon, characters could and did go from 50 to 60 without feeling like you needed to grind world quests, and stay in one zone and knock out whatever they felt like before moving to the next.
From what they announced in patch notes, and in dev blurbs, the whole concept of removing it is still silly. Unless they somehow coded themselves into a place where they introduced technical limitations for no good reason (the underlying scaling tech, and triggers for zones, world quests, and dungeons should have integrated easily with Chromie Time), they essentially arbitrary chose to limit players’ options for alts. The choice they made actively dissuades anyone from choosing Shadowlands over any other expansion.
This. I won’t use SL for leveling characters ever now. All I wanted to do was run WQs, side quests, and covenant quests. Plus I’d get good gear for DF when I hit 60. But now I’d have to do all of the covenant zone into quests just to be able to go to the zones and to choose a covenant. No, hard pass, I’m so sick of those quests and didn’t even like them the first time around.
