I wonder if they give gear beyond the 2 cache weekly limit or if they are counted separately from that.
I thought they were separate, and that every bountiful coffer was supposed to give gear and currency items. But I dunno … it could be that Blizzard changed it or it could be a bug for you to report.
They mean gear.
Actual gear. Items of equipped use. That’s kind of the point of the coffer key, to get real items. Not pets, or other junk.
For this character (and by THIS, I mean the one I am on in-game, not this one on the forums, before someone tries to troll my armory or something), it was my first spent coffer key. So it shouldn’t have hit any limits. I have another one, but now I’m hesitant to use it. Just trying to get some good early gear, but wow, what a waste if this doesn’t pay out.
Pfft…gear lasts one patch. Pets are forever.

If not I think it’s probably a bug.
I also have a couple of keys and haven’t used one in the live release yet.
The only thing I’ve opened so far today was a weekly bonus cache, those purple ones from doing enough weekly quests in a zone. Oh, and the OVERALL weekly, that’s why I have two keys, one from each of those. Or did have two keys.

You get I think 2 per week if you don’t miss one of the things for it.
+1 every other week or so from shard WQs eventually adding up into 1 key.
I have no interest in pets beyond randomly getting them, so them lasting forever is much like dust gathering. Cool, not interested.

There’s a limit on caches giving gear of two a week (the first two). I don’t think that’s supposed to include the bountiful caches, though, which is why I think it’s a bug. Worth reporting in any case probably.
I don’t even understand your answer. Sure, I’ll be fine. But what’s the point of these keys if they don’t actually reward items?
Why is this relevant? I’d be even more upset if I used it in a +8 say, and got no item.
You can get four in a week – the first four reward caches you open have one in them. You can also get more than that from other sources, but from the weekly caches you can get 4 of them.
