Let’s assume it is the latest phase … when Naxx comes out. Thus, the most powerful gear will be there. Let’s also assume that the guild has and BWL and MC on farm. But is just started AQ40, so no gear from there.
So now, we all know that Classic raiding will take more time than the private servers due to increased parry/dodge etc, less TPS etc. I THINK (please confirm) world buffs were also done wrong there.
I believe on private servers, MC could be cleared in less than an hour. How much time do you think a typical MC clear would take?
Our raid team’s last clear of MC, in about August 2006, took 1hr and 45 minutes. Though there was some people mucking about since we knew it was the last, they were pulling extra trash.
I was in a 3 team raiding alliance. The 2nd team where I started, was almost done with MC when the leads of the first two teams asked me to take up the extensive bench and start a third team. So we were behind the 8 ball, but we still got Twin Emps down and were working on C’thun when 2.0.1 dropped.
Dropping MC was more about no-body picking up items from there to the point where the time was wasted. We had a new run start up with alts and some pickups when we stopped, so that our rogues could continue arguing about Thunderfury.
Ok. so it took you guys an hour and a half, but your raid wasn’t exactly super geared. Correct?
I’ll explain why I’m so interested. To me, a part of what made Vanilla stand out was time spent. As a benchmark, my experience was this. When AQ40 just came out, MC would still take us roughly 2+ hours.
What this means is that you had to choose which dungeon you wanted to run per night. As we progressed in AQ40, we dropped MC from the raid rotation. There was none of this “we’ll continue to do MC just for Thunderfury” as is the thought process on private servers because there, MC took like 0 time to clear.
What I’m trying to figure out now is, if MC clears will take enough time to simulate the Vanilla “feel”. A decent amount of time? Cool. 30 minutes? Not cool. Time taken will dictate whether or not I play Classic because I think that’s root of everything Vanilla on so many levels - from guild dynamics, to raid clears, to player burnout.
But we raided 3 hours a night, 3 nights a week. By the end, 9 hours was usually broken down into 1 night of AQ farm clearing, 1 night of BWL (with any left over time on AQ progression) and 1 night of AQ progression
Unless they broke something severely, clearing in under an hour will only be the most overgeared players who have nothing to get from MC and probably shouldn’t be wasting their time there. T3 wasn’t that big of a jump over T2.5 or even T2. A big step from T1 to T3, but not 4x as powerful.
Alot of the time factor also depends on the raiders themselves. Raiders that are more hardcore/committed also tend to be more efficient and would push for faster clears.
Which is kinda ironic since one of the more common advice give to players with less free time and more casual playstyle is to join casual raid groups but the casual raids also tend to take more time to clear their raids compared to a raid with more committed raiders.
90 mins, maybe alittle less. It’s really hard to say tbh till we see how world buffs work, how many flasks are actually available and will vary from raid to raid.
That’s one of my questions also. How it worked in 1.1/1.2 was that FR on DPS was mandatory but up until a certain threshold of how quickly your healers would OOM. Really all we need for DPS was +15 FR from Onyx, I think the emblem from BRD, and some others I can’t remember. FR pots. etc. But it wasn’t a ton.
But using 1.12, Rag would die much faster. So I’d imagine FR wouldn’t be as big a deal. Maybe even neglible to some extent.
I think difference though is that “casual” also means you don’t need to farm consumables. When I wasn’t raiding, I was farming consumables. Fishing, Herbs, etc.
AQ20, Ony and ZG served as filler content to help smaller raiding guilds bridge the gap with gear. Whilst MC could be started on blues, BWL needed a good ratio of MC/epics and the T2 helm/Pants from Ony/Rag
Nax40 razuvious & patchwerk wer gear checks for damage mitigation and dps. Guilds that couldnt get past either of those bosses didnt venture far into Nax without accumulating anything but large repair bills
I wouldnt want to do MC BWL with all geared people. I would always want to bring a few that need the gear. Otherwise why clear it if nobody needs anything
For a full T3 raid, assuming all available consumables and full effort it would probably only take about an hour, maybe 90 minutes if they slack.
For an organized pre-raid gear group going in for the first time it would probably take between 2-3 hours assuming no big roadblocks, wipefests etc. 4-6 hours if you’re learning or struggling on a boss.
For a PuG with gear ranging from pre-raid to BWL/AQ it’s hard to say as it all depends on the individual groups, but I’d leave it for a rainy day as it could very well take all afternoon if you’re unlucky.
