Ok. I'm going to say it

Frost Mages aren’t bad.

Stop kicking us from keys if we do not play Fire.

Sincerely,

A guy that has played Frost for over a decade.

I’m torn on this topic. In my opinion, you haven’t played frost for over a decade, you’ve played mage for over a decade. You play a class, not a spec. With that in mind, I feel you should be playing the spec that performs best in the content you are participating in.

If you still just want to play a less-than-optimal spec though, getting a group of guildies/friends or your own key is a better option than expecting pugs to put up with worse performance. Again, just imo.

See this is a perfect example of the toxicity of the elitism of the 1%'ers who watch MDI and see a fire mage do it and then say frost mage is not viable! You are forcing this man to play a spec he does not enjoy in his game just so he will be accepted by the society in WOW. Class disparity has got to go! Raider IO has got to go! THE 1%'ERS HAVE GOT TO GO!

Everyone is trash at the game at some point. Learning how to play one of the three specs of the class he’s allegedly been playing for over a decade shouldn’t be that difficult.

Okay seriously though dude what’s with the slur? That was completely uncalled for.

This is the toxic behavior I am referring to! I have receive these racial slurs on a daily basis. The toxicity levels of these peoples have got so bad that they think they can no longer be racist towards a specific ethnicity!

This mindset (specifically, not understanding that some people main specs) makes absolutely no sense to me. I get that some people like changing specs; for some of my characters it works. For others, it doesn’t. Part of the game at the RPG-level is immersing yourself in your character; it’s not for everyone, but it is part of the game.

Jaina doesn’t go “actually I need max DPS for this fight” and switch to fire spec, I’m not sure I can think of a time she actually used fire.

Garrosh didn’t go “I’m facing a raid, better get out the sword and board so I can abuse tenacity mechanics.”

Characters and players both can have preferences and more people imx play the spec they like than respec for what’s meta unless you’re in this for competitive dungeoning which – okay, if that’s your bag, sure, but I doubt it’s even the majority of the active playerbase. Probably the majority of the highly invested playerbase, but not the active playerbase.

I’m 2.7k io my guy  I got there with just Frost. I got kicked from so many forming groups just because I am not a Fire Mage.

Likewise, people not taking advantage of their entire class makes no sense to me. Maybe it’s because I got into this game before specs were as solid as they are now. You didn’t play a “fire” mage, you played a mage that used fire and frost and arcane spells more or less depending on how many points in each talent tree you spent.

The idea that a class is reduced to a single spec is so painful to someone that came from talent trees that utilized spells from all aspects of a class.

Jaina has used fire and arcane spells many, many times. Despite that, it’s not a good argument to use a character such as that since they can go outside of normal class mechanics to fit the storyline (and do quite often).

Eh, most people I’ve played with play the spec that is good at the time. I hate the new outlaw spec, but I play it in m+. I play a rogue, not a spec, there’s no reason to cripple both myself and my group.

If you played Vanilla, tbh, I would think you’d really understand it. It was expensive as heck for anyone who was not a raider to swap specs casually – 50g was A Lot back then and people would save up for a month to do changes.

I understand the non-attachment to specs better for someone who joined in MoP or later when Blizzard seemed to expect everyone would be A-OK with just swapping specs to whatever is meta.

This character, for example, is light-themed. They’ve always been light-themed since before they were a mechagnome (and even since before they were a gnome, since priests couldn’t be gnomes before Cata). The decision to make Disc a half-shadow spec (rather than just occasionally using a shadow spell – that’s different) infuriated me. I would especially never play them as Shadow now that it’s all about going insane and old god-y. “Yeah, I wanted to make some money so I decided to Hail Satan on the weekends and moonlight as a crazed murder cultist.”

And that is a fair enough position but the reality is that Fire out performs frost.

And as ive said before that perfectly fine but you also have to accept that playing frost in a pug environment means that player are more then likely to drop you. That is just life.

You have a guild, you have friends and you have your OWN key. Go make a group/raid with your rules.
