… gotta clear this mob real quick so I can loot it.
Oh … there’s another player watching me kill this mob as they loot my chest and take whatever is inside, leaving me to continue fighting this mob. Nice.
Contemplate cursing them out or /spit … decide it’s not worth it and continue on my quest.
The one thing in Classic I forgot about and did not miss.

This has happened a lot. Once, though, a rogue thought he was being sneaky in a quilboar camp and tried taking a chest while I killed the mob. Turns out there were a couple other mobs behind the hut the chest was in and he managed to aggro them both. I killed my mob, looted the chest, and watched him die.
Seen two blues drop from chests recently. Regardless, it’s the principle of the matter.
I honestly just stood there and ended up dying by the mob I was attacking cause I was processing the fact the dude was even taking it in the first place. Had multiple thoughts rolling through my head of how best to react without having repercussions. I wish I had a similar outcome as you though.
Me and another guy had this happen to us except a bunch of mobs spawned as we were fighting the 3 mobs around the chest. The guy tried to loot the chest, we died. The mobs aggro’d onto him and killed him.
I’m a Holy Pally with crappiest gear. Which means I run out of mana fast and I auto attack. So yes, I am going to get mad if I do succeed in killing a mob and someone comes up and grabs the chest loot before me. One day, I just said to some dude, “I just feel sorry for you, because this is how your life has turned out.” I was pretty annoyed. He whispers back, “I just wanted to see what was inside, I didn’t even take it.” I told him that he shouldn’t have even looked.
LOL, I got over it fast because I guess this is what MY life has turned out to be. Arguing with someone over a chest. But still… doesn’t mean my annoyance isn’t justified.
I honestly had multiple different thoughts rolling through my head regarding how I wanted to respond. I even saw the dude a couple minutes later fighting a mob and wanted to /spit so bad. I felt all the physical warning signs of anger rolling through me, but had to force them back down. Figured making a thread to vent would be more productive. I completely understand where you’re coming from though.
I have a slightly different problem with chests and thats the crazy respawn timer. Whenever I tried to loot chests near murloc camps they will respawn really fast or immediately after dying. It has become a obsession of mine to loot these chests. Once I had a mage help me kill the endless wave of respawns near the chests in silverpine by the lake. He gave up after 2 minutes. It can be so ridiculous sometimes, especially when they start fleeing and bringing more adds into the mix. Any sane person would just walk away, but I just can’t.
I love to stealth next to a chest and patiently wait for the other guy to clear the mobs for me. Taking the chest while he watches me is the best feeling ever. Espcially when I sap an alliance player right as they try to loot it.
