I have never encountered this. Keep in mind I just do my 10s as not a fan of mplus but it’s my weekly chore to do for mythic raiding. Nobody has ever said oh I thought you was aug or can you play aug to me.
It definitely happens more in the title range of keys.
That said, it happens to almost literally every class with multiple DPS specs if you’re playing something off-meta/less strong.
That’s how metas work.
Ah, the words of the ancient curse, it usually has two outcomes:
You have been removed from the group
or
Awesome, I hate aug

Love it when they waste my time like this. Could easily see which spec they are by scrolling over the name before inviting, and I even put it “DEV” in my note in case they’re a little slow.
If it is any consolation, I’ve dealt with that a lot too when I was pushing higher in M+. The spiteful side of me would check to see if they succeeded after wasting everyone’s time after about an hour or two. Usually they failed even after getting their precious aug for a key that didn’t need one, even with listing dev in note, being dev when applying, and having 100% of keys as dev.
