I started playing after Burning Crusade and never really leveled through the Outland content until recently. I have reached Ogri’la which I am guessing must have been an end game collection of repeatable quests. I am curious what this looked like in practice during the original roll out of the game? Thank you.
Simon says, Ogri’la daily sucks.
There were… 3 stations I think for the simon says spread out around that area. Usually, one or two of them were bugged and unusable at any time.
I think there was a ‘bombing run’ quest, and a ‘collect some shards’ as well, and that was basically ogri’la.
Was pretty tedious, and IIRC it had rewards that made it worth it.
Think now… It might have some transmog and it’s a reputation.
In content droughts I used to enjoy completing a lot of these old daily grind quest areas. Not a lot of fun, repetitive things rarely are, but felt good completing them. At least more so than a lot of content.
Grinding Outland reps was beyond awful. Ogrila probably being the worst as you had to play a kids game from the 80s, and it was buggy ad heck.
One of the worst rep grinds. From what I remember there was really nothing worth working towards. Never got to exalted until recently. Once WotLK came out I left Outland. I went back later as I was almost max rep on that character, last year I think.
I never had any real problems with the Simon dailies.
I just noted the colors in chat as they played out.
There was also some event with a mini-boss, I don’t know if I actually ever got that complete.
The bombing run could be a bit of a trick as well.
The rest was routine kill and collect stuff.
to answer your question, Ogri’la wasn’t added until an update patch in the Burning Crusade. It wasn’t leveling content.
When I was playing TBC back in the day, I completely ignored it and to this day never completed it. Most of my friends back then did the same. None of the rewards were really that good and I always personally considered it irrelevant from a story perspective. I’ve thought about going back and maxing out the reputation just for the tabard but haven’t gotten around to it.
I still haven’t finished my Ogri’la reputation, along with Sha’tari Skyguard. Maybe I’ll finally hit Exalted on both during the next Burning Crusade Timewalking…
back in original TBC, people did the Ogrila dailies for gold - some did it to hit exalted and buy one of the epic pieces of gear.
It was probably one of the worst daily hubs I’ve ever encountered.
There was also a gauntlet mini game where you took control of various demons and you ‘upgraded’ to a new demon after every round. That got removed in Wrath I think. I remember it being there on TBC classic.
EDIT: It got removed with Cata.
Another was ‘banish 15 demons’.
Also some of the Shat’ari skyguard dailies counted towards Ogri’la rep as well. Such as the ‘wrangle nether rays’ and the bombing run daily.
Same. I just typed what the order was in say chat using the following key.
r = red
y = yellow
b = blue
g = green
