Official Why Warcraft is Dead Thread

The following is my opinion based on experience and some facts and in no way means I won’t resub in the future when I get a new PC. It was put together to proclaim feelings of frustration and closure as I’m in a position that I have had to unsub unfortunately anyway for a bit.

If you think WOW is dead or not feel free to chat about it below. I actually like hearing opinions and facts on this subject.

=====================================

Yes it is true. World of Warcraft is in fact dead… as dead as most of the servers during big player events… as dead as the idea of class balance… as dead as the current pre-event…

and here’s why.

  1. Activision has taken over and changed Blizzard
  2. The original content creators are either fired or have quit and joined new gaming companies (and the ones that quit have done rightly so.)
  3. World of MicroCraft has arrived and will grow (see the earnings reports)
  4. LOL at the pre-patch event which the way it has been handled and the content you have experienced is a foreshadowing of Shadowlands to come. (The event is the worst in WOW history)
  5. Shadowlands is a new Lore line yes and that is the best thing about it. However it consists of old recycled systems mixed with some new and a ton of empty. Imagine playing Legion with Class Order Hall content (Covenants and Covenant areas) mixed with broken shore questing with a mage tower (however subtract 75 percent of the content and you arrive at Shadowlands Maw and Torgast.)
  6. People actually play Classic (rerunning old content) just to find a feeling of why they should play WOW anymore at all while praying for retail to be as fun as the good ole days they remember.

And finally number 7:

7: The community will look at the subscription numbers and say WOW isn’t dead because of the high numbers ignoring the following fact. Your only subscribers consist of 3 catagories.

A: Players that have sunk 16 years into the game and have reached a point where they keep subbing in hopes of something happening to reawaken their spirits of Warcraft so they can sink another 16 years into the game and have fun doing so… all the while not wanting to give up and unsub because then 16 years of play would be as useless as used toilet paper and that in itself is a reality they can’t handle so they pray to the gods of Actizzard to raise Arthas one more time to save WOW.

B: Content creators that are trying to hold on and make content so WOW remains interesting… all the while searching out new games to switch their content too for the latest technology and gameplay of the HD gaming scene now and to come… because it’s their only income they have… it’s their lively hood and actually some of their content is more interesting than WOW itself… #truth

C: New Subscribers that believe the hype and have no clue what they are getting themselves into.

And that my friends is why, it is factual to say, World of Warcraft is dead, as we’ve known it and can never truly rise again.

Years may go on and sub numbers double but the facts remain… it isn’t the same and never shall be again.

WoW was “Dead” after Cata. But here we are…still paying a subscription for a dead game…

My server seems awfully populated for a dead game.

lol

I too expect people to work their entire lives in a single game.

Industry standard at this point.

LMAO. MoP “event” was an scenario that lasted 20 mins.

Ideas repeat in cycle, always happens.

Or people are just playing other stuff because they actually want.

What book?

Where have I heard this before? Oh yes, every expansion…

Look, I’ve been at this since day 1. WoW will only die when ActiBlizzard shuts the servers down. There’s still servers running Ultima Online and Everquest (which is where I came from), so WoW has a long way to go.

Granted, they may not be making the kind of money they were at their prime, but they make a good amount from WoW still. They will continue to until the servers are pulled offline.

The book, of false assumptions, toxic threads, and outrageously inaccurate posts, also known as General Discussion in a Nutshell. Unfortunately, that book will never close so long as WoW exists.

You should have opened this with Dear Diary if you are ending on this note.

I keep harping this, take a break, a nice long one. I came back after 5-6 months away, and I am not angry when I am playing. I played other things, stayed away and it did me loads of good. A month is not nearly enough to clear the frustration, at least it wasn’t for me.

Such hyper-dramatic dreck.

Its dead because we’re at the end of an awful expansion. Get ready for queues in a couple weeks.
