Welp, looks like I get to no life this launch after all…
Half my house tested positive for the 'rona, and I’m getting a “voluntary” week or two off work until everyone tests clean.

You still can? When classic name reservations launched my guild was in discord together and we chose a server. Why can’t you do that? Or did you not put a tiny ounce of thought into it and instead just panicked like the rest of them?

These times are really disappointing. Planning the launch for a time when a lot of people will still be working that day really bums me out and sours the launch for me. Specially since name reservations weren’t allowed ahead of time. I hope these times will be reconsidered for future launches.

I won’t be taking Thursday or Friday off from work. Given how these launches have gone in the past, I see a high chance of some last minute technical glitches being discovered that delay the launch time many hours into the late night. But then even if it DOES launch successfully on time, I feel like the only thing I’d be “discovering” on Thursday is a message saying:
Realm is Full
Position in queue: 9001
Estimated time: 600 min (it’ll be way past my bedtime before I get in.)
When I do get home from work on Thursday, my hopes are not that high that I’ll actually get to play it. I’m mentally preparing for that so I won’t be upset. I’m thinking maybe I might get to play it on Saturday when I’m able to queue as soon as I wake up?
But yeah, that’s why I would advise against taking Thursday or Friday off from work with the expectation of being able to actually play SoD. And I would also advise to mentally prepare yourself for the possibility of not being able to actually play on those days. If I do get to play this on Thursday, I’ll be very pleasantly surprised.
Yeah but if those are Aussie times, Nov 31 may be logic they can follow.
(FYI, if you don’t already know, they are undeniably the best guild mates.)

Their response they gave to this is pretty bulletproof. They have good reason to not reveal servers early, for the sake of there not being 1 over-populated mega realm people all agree to play on ahead of time with their excessive planning, which then creates many under-populated realms.

This is awesome for those of us going in solo and hoping to find friends and a guild along the way, but this change greatly conflicts with Blizzard’s own Social Contract, as friends and guildmates will be locked out of playing on the same faction.
I know exactly where PEI is. The fact that I’m on it helps.
so… Australia is so big they have Foster’s for beer and November 31… thats crazy!

Aww mate, sorry to hear. It took me months to recover from my run in with it. Get lots of rest. Stay hydrated. Rest as much as you can. (insert bowl of chicken soup here)
