Office Chairs

What office chairs are you using?

I was using a $100 Staples chair for about 2 years now, and it’s basically fallen apart.

Ordered and received an Autonomous Myochair today. $239 with all the accessories.

It seems okay. Everyone seems to be recommending Herman Miller chairs, bit the price tags are a bit hard to swallow.

Anyone got any other recommendations for decent office chairs? Not looking to spend more than $300.

A little over your price cap, but I got this chair from Staples about 8 years ago. It is comfy, is still in great shape and has been through multiple moves and many hours of me sitting in it. The only thing I wish was that the armrests were a little bit taller.

I have gained some weight over the course of covid-19… Back up to 200 again lol

I got the Ticova Ergonomic Office Chair from Amazon, its $228 with the coupon. I was able to sell my gaming chair on FB marketplace for $140, and had about $50 in amazon reward points so I got it for much cheaper

Is this the one you got?

Anyone have this one?

I used to buy office chairs from Office Depot/Office Max, they always started falling apart after a couple years. I finally caved in a few years ago & bought a Leap from Steelcase. Expensive but worth it - if I’d bought another cheapo chair from the big box store I’d have replaced it by now, the Leap still looks like new. And it has better lumbar support than any other office chair I’ve owned.

Buy a slightly used Hermon Miller from craigslist. Alternatively, check out the line of Serta chairs from OfficeMax. The mattress company tends to make some pretty comfortable stuff.

home office - Staples Turcotte Luxura Faux Leather Computer and Desk Chair
It’s cheap but I find it very comfortable, I can sit in it for hours with no issue

at work - Ikea MARKUS - twice the price of the Staples chair for half the comfort

avoid gaming chairs, they are just office chairs with better colors.

Ended up giving the Mayochair to my wife. She likes the slight recline of the seat back.

Personally, I liked the foot rest and the head rest, but I need a more upright sitting position. The Carder has a better upright sitting position for now.

Still on the hunt, I’ll look at that Staples chair you mentioned.

I bought one gaming chair years ago and will never get one again. Mesh for life. Maybe leather. Maybe.

I bought this mesh chair from Costco like 5 years ago don’t know what it’s called exactly, looks something like this

But bought this to sit on

Purple cushion is so much better than anything else

That looks pretty similar to what I already have, which I actually like well enough. I also have added a seat cushion.

Will have to look at that purple cushion.

I don’t care if someone says “Herman miller is better” or whatever

The purple cushion is extremely comfortable, so much that I am considering buying their mattress as I want to get rid of my tempur-pedic mattress

https://purple.com/mattresses/hybrid-premier

They say you can sit on an egg with this cushion and it won’t break, they mean it

I considered the purple a few months back…but ended up going with the Saatva Luxury Firm.

I think the purple as an accessory on top of an existing cushion, which already has some conventional seating components, makes sense.

The purple all by itself though might not really be good for me. I like the hybrid design of the Saatva.

They even have it for pets too if you have a dog or cat

Haven’t tried their purple pillows yet but one day I will

Yeah my dog gets walmart special

Second the mattress manufacturing thing. Best one I ever owned was made by Simmons, bought the dang thing from Sam’s Club. Haven’t found one as comfortable since.

Whatever I have currently isn’t bad, but I can’t remember for the life of me what is.

I’ve bought numerous chairs from Staples over the years. Basically, if you’re using it more than just a couple hours per day, these Staples chairs will go flat pretty quickly. I usually have issues with the bonded leather peeling after some time, and I don’t think our humidity helps during the summer.

But, I usually get more than a couple years of life per purchase. It’s pretty easy to request free replacement parts, so I swap out the parts of the chair as necessary over like 5-6 years. It’s not that expensive if you do this, but you do have to end up dealing with them going flatter more quicker than usual.

Edit: Whenever I get the replacement seats, it’s pretty funny how different they are between new/used. I sort of prefer a flatter seat in general, but the new seats are just way more cushioned/higher up than the one you’ve been sitting on for a year or two. I find they usually noticeably lose structure after about a week or so, and I’m on the lighter side as well.

Best chair I’ve used in a long time:

Chair comes prebuilt and you roll it out of a box.

I’m using a Herman Miller Embody that I got for free when a startup I worked for closed its doors 4 or so years ago. The chair is 5-6 years old at this point and is still in great condition. Sits great, I can use it for hours on end without any pressure points or anything like that.

My roommate is using a Herman Miller Aeron they got off of craigslist used for like $250. That was before everybody upgraded their home office for pandemic reasons though, so the supply of used office chairs may have run a bit dry since then.

No, I got the one titled " Ticova Ergonomic Office Chair - High Back Desk Chair with ELASTIC Lumbar Support". So far I like it, I just wish the arm rests were 4D because it would be nice to angle them outwards a bit.
