Offensive Language

I tried to name my Magic Floating Pen pet “Mr Write” but can’t…WHY is the word “MISTER” offensive language!? Really? Please tell me that word means something in some other language other than English…How can this be a transphobic action when im naming my own pet and not addressing someone else with it!?

…and it just dawned on me…Kel’Thuzad’s cat’s name is Mr. Bigglesworth…its hypocrisy

I love this jump in logic:

The answer - it isn’t either.

Abbreviations like Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr etc are generally not okay for use for naming pets. Not because it is offensive and not because it is transphobic, but rather because Blizzard doesn’t want us using them or they break a generic naming convention that Blizz has put in place for naming pets.

I honestly have never heard their explanation why but are we just tossing out common sense here?

Oh right; forums.

I think the reason you can’t make the name is the spacing btw the words?

It doesn’t always mean it is offensive. Probably using part of a npc title or spacing.

I name my Shadow Priest ““Blackress””" and was accused of racism. I said I called her that cause she is Shadow as in her colour is always Black. Some people are going overboard now on names and reporting them for most stupidest of reasons.

This thread is about naming battle pets - not PCs.

Oh sorry. I didn’t realize that. Will put on my reading classes now lol.

Yeah I couldn’t name my cat in game Blackie, named after my now deceased black cat. Yes, I know the name lacked any creativity whatsoever but it wasn’t a racial thing I swear.

???

For every person who would genuinely use a name like “blackie” and not have it be something racist, there are two players who would use it and it would be something racist.

Sorry, but you can thank “that guy”.

Not always your names qill be blocked because it is offesinve or could be offesive.

Blizz has naming convention to PC and pets, and they cannot be broken. Why they have that ? Who knows

You are not wrong sadly. I understand why it was denied, still sucks though.

If you name your pet “Mister” spelled out just like that by itself its flagged as offensive language. Any counter argument to that, Captain Logical?

Quite a few of the errors are just a default “no” and not so much the exact reason why.

I didn’t go to 8 years of Medical Captain school to be called “Captain Logical”. You will address me appropriately as Dr. Captain Logical Esquire!

Look man, think for yourself for a moment - is the word “mister” actually offensive in any way?

No, it isn’t.

“Then why would they say it is marked as offensive” you ask? Well, the most reasonable explanation is that rather than creating a unique label for each and every word/abbreveviation/acronym etc… for breaking the naming rules, they made one - offensive language for all violations of their naming policy.

Less dev work, same end result.

Did you not read my reply? The entire word spelled out is flagged. Its neither an abbreviation nor an acronym.

Oh goody, even checked and confirmed that there is indeed a separate warning for Abbreviations and Acronyms which completely tosses out your entire counter argument.

Yes, I did.

Did you think at all about mine?

Is this just a troll thread?

Are you deliberately being obtuse?

Is it okay to sleep with socks on?

You said it falls under a blanket warning that covers all infractions including that of abbreviations and offensive language. False. Both ways they’re spelled have different warning messages.

Stop holding onto the acronym argument. Its gone. Your Logic Doctorate should also be revoked.

Its not, they just want you to believe it is.

Mr. Bigglesworth is beg to disagree
