I’ve been posting from a starter account since i quit back in 2008 and my old account was inactice, but i recently got it reactivated by customer support. My original characters are still there, but their names are all screwed up with a bunch of random letters and numbers.

Before i subscribe to play them, does anyone know if the game will let me fix their names?

Yes, there names decayed and someone else has them now. You will be flagged to rename them. Half of my toons are in the same place as yours.

Yep, after 2 full expansions pass, if an account is inactive all the names get recycled. It’s possible the name is still available too.
This was changed a few years ago. I’ll see if I can find the link for you

Thanks. The names are still available (my starter account is using them), just wanted to be sure i could rename and not have a scrabble disaster for my character tag

Note that if your starter account is using the name, you will have to delete each toon before you can “reclaim” the name.

On the plus side, if you are mainly resubscribing to play Classic, you get to make all new characters anyways. :slight_smile:

Yea, for now I’ve just been dabbling on the starter account, doing some low level dungeons and pvp to get my hype fix while waiting on classic. I dont intend at any point to play retail seriously.

Starter accounts have a lot of limitations I’m not fond of though, so it might be worth resubscribing just to get out of that. Plus, it feels like it’d be more appropriate posting with my original vanilla day 1 character than a remake.

BTW, how do I go about changing my forum profile back to the original account?

If they are on the same Battlenet account (same email basically) then you should be able to choose the name you are posting on by clicking your portrait near the upper right hand corner of the page and click on the ‘change character’ near the bottom of the pull-down. If it is on a different Battlenet account, then you should be able to just log into that account instead.

ah, i guess it’s because i havent reactivated them yet, they’re on the same bnet account.
