Hey guys, (TDLR at the end btw)
I might have had a good idea and I want to share it with you all to see what you think. I was talking with another tank today about how interesting cat weaving will be for druid tanks in raids. Let’s be honest, nowadays we often bring a second tank for some mechanics and soaking stuff. While some guilds do a 50/50 tanking style, it could easily be 80/20, just taunting before stacks get applied and whatnot.
Anyway, I was thinking we could introduce “Cat weaving DPSing” to other tanks as well. I’m not talking about having tanks do as much damage as an actual DPS class, but we could probably tweak some stuff around to allow tanks to have an actual DPS rotation that doesn’t affect their defensive capability if they choose to activate it. I have knowledge of Warrior and Paladin, so these will be small changes for them. I’m sure some of you can come up with stuff for DH, Monk, and DK as well.
Protection Paladin change in an OT scenario:
- Adding Aura of Determination in the Protection talent tree.
- When Aura of Determination is selected, the cloak slot becomes a 2-hander weapon slot.
- When Aura of Determination is activated (instead of Devo or anything else), the Paladin takes his 2-hander weapon from his back and puts his shield and 1-hand weapon there.
- Aura of Determination alters some abilities of the Paladin:
- Shield of the Righteous becomes Templar’s Verdict.
- Hammer of the Righteous (or Blessed Hammer, but seriously, don’t use that in raids) becomes Crusader Strike.
- These abilities could have different base damage or scaling than a Ret Paladin, ensuring they will never be close in DPS.
Warrior:
- Stance same as Paladin with the 2-hander instead of the cloak.
- Shield Slam could become Mortal Strike.
- Devastate becomes Slam.
- If Devastator is selected, Slam is now your auto attack generator (7 rage instead of 10) but has a 20% chance to reset the CD on Mortal Strike.
I’m pretty sure we can balance that later, right?
TL;DR
Tanks should all have some kind of half-tank, half-DPS stance or aura to have a little more fun while not actively tanking, similar to how druids will get with cat weaving.
What do you guys think?
Cheers!
