Is it possible to experiment with the talents that would provide favorable results. For example could you adjust the Fury talents for a warrior that could incorporate a shield that would be fun and effective? My question just isn’t for the warrior class but really any class. Everyone just wants to Min-Max every stat. Or they use Wowhead to get the most damage or healing. On my pally I tried mixing Retro with some healing and find the results interesting. Just figured I’d throw this out there.
Fun? Maybe. Effective? Probably not. There’s a reason everyone just netdecks their talents…because those are the most effective at any given time. I’m sure they >could< add more choice nodes so that it wouldn’t further bloat the trees to put stuff like this in, but I doubt it’s a priority.
Yeah I get that. you can kinda branch off a bit with the hero talents but even they limit you on talents in certain cases. I don’t care about dmg meters as I normally do solo play. i would trade some dmg to get some heals, or use a shield, or whatever.
There’s no way to move your talents around to do this.
Any specific source or reason? Or is that your opinion?
Fury gets absolutely zero talents that will benefit Shield Slam. You can use a shield, you can use Shield Slam, but it will destroy your DPS and prevent use of almost all your meaningful abilities.
You can experiment all you want, though. That’s what the training dummies are for!
Yeah I might play around and see what I can come up with. I’m not looking for top teir damage. Im mainly looking for fun and the ability to quest and delve. There are tons of talents but we always choose to simply max out without exploring new options.
You can try, but the above poster wasnt kidding that with a shield the vast majority of your buttons become unpressable
I’m not looking to equip a shield specifically on fury. If I attempted that I would try some kind of tank class and attempt to add more dps to it to gain better shield skills. It doesn’t have to be warrior specific either. I was just wondering if anyone goes outside Wowhead to create something different or unique.
Wowhead basically gives the basic talent build but it’s not based much on each situation and group composition. For example, a pro restoration shaman dropped most of the recommended talents to pick up ancestral totem and other talents to help the group survive a 18 tot. So tldr yes you can and many do it including myself.
Meanwhile, you could give Brewmasters 10 extra talent points to spend, and it wouldn’t even matter because there’s nothing in the tree worth taking.
Because there’s no talents in our trees that work with shields or one weapon?
That’s not an opinion. It’s literally how the talents are built.
Most people make different types of builds, but we still have no choice but to stick to what’s in the trees.
Not really, no.
For all the branching nodes and dozens of talent points, the reality is that the current talent system is mostly illusion of choice. The majority of points spent in the talent tree are very locked-in on buying back the basic functionality of the spec that used to be baseline before DF, with only a handful of points left over to wiggle around and experiment with.
At most, a given spec might have two basic builds directed one toward each of its Hero specs, with minor deviations for ST vs AoE. Going far enough off of these builds as to register a distinctly different playstyle typically results in such a hefty performance loss that no one would touch it, if it’s even playable at all.
That’s the best answer I’ve seen so far. However Im going to attempt these crazy builds just for fun. I’ll report my findings if I make any developments.
Classic they called them ’ Hybrid " characters and harassed us for not choosing one spec.
I was doing boomkin stuff on my guardian druid , before they were even a thing.
NOW, I pull with moonfire in bear form and nobody says anything anymore.
